what if Jesse led Blacks to flood the GOP and change it?
It just occurred to me that if people of color left the Democratic Party en masse and flooded the GOP, they could turn conservatism's lock on the south on its ear. A massive influx of socially liberal folks into the party could throw out the wingnuts and elect people who espouse democratic values.

It would be wonderful.

1. Why would they follow Jesse Jackson anywhere?

You are overestimating the esteem in which the african-american community holds Jackson.

6. perhaps not
I do recall that Jesse received 9 million votes in his bid for the presidency. Nine million.

Did you know that?

Even half that is enough to influence a lot of elections.

8. I concure
The Democratic Party did not hear, appearently, 'The State of Black America' hosted by Tavis Smiley. Oh, the lesson is gonna hurt.

3. Not going to happen.
I'm black and I can tell you that is NOT going to happen. Jackson is well liked in the black community, but we are lemmings... It seems that you hold that belief, because blacks do not march in lock-step. If we did, I wouldn't listen to AC/DC, Metallica, Garth Brooks, Bach.... Well, you get the point.

7. your logic doesn't hold, I don't think...
....I didn't consider people of color lemmings, blindly following a charismatic leader. I proposed a notion that a particular voting block could flood the GOP in a way that would break the lock on the south -- not a blind act, but a strategic and intentional movement.

5. if Democrats fail to win back Congress in 2006..time for another strategy
If liberal votes are just as powerful as conservative ones, then why confine this message to a losing party? Our votes must always be earned and never owned!
