Poll question: Does America Deserve Russ Feingold?
A Democratic dark horse poised to emerge
Feingold's Judiciary spot
provides an '08 advantage
Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., left, with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., during a 2002 Capitol Hill rally supporting their campaign finance bill.

WASHINGTON - Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold, a blunt Midwestern maverick who isn't afraid to defy his party, is perfectly placed to make the kind of impression that gets a run for the presidential nomination off to a quick start.

Feingold, a potential 2008 Democratic hopeful, has what his more famous colleague from New York, Sen. Hillary Clinton, lacks: a starring role on a Senate committee that will repeatedly make big news over the next six months.

2. Why do you say that? Like the Patriot Act?

18. Not just thePAtriot Act
Things like his votes on the Rave Act, MJ legislation and the list goes on and on... he's a 'moderate' type and I consider Feingold to be on par with some of the worst voters for those things that have been supported and votes on.

19. According to his voting record, he's the second most progressive Senator
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 09:31 PM by htuttle
Who's voting record are you looking at?

ps. He was the only Senator to vote AGAINST the PATRIOT act. Are you saying you wished he voted for it?

4. No America does not deserve him
but for once, may be it will awake and vote for the right person, in which case he has a chance.

He is one of the very few I could support wholeheartedly.

6. Nope
...we didn't deserve Kerry for that matter. A nation that can legitimize a court appointed war criminal responsible for IIRC 34 scandals many of which are impeachable offenses by voting (not counting the fraudulent ones) in such numbers doesn't deserve leaders with integrity.

...We're not worhty!
We're not worthy!
We're not worhty!

7. Isn't ironic that the poll says "yes," but a handful of posters say "no?"
Draw your own conclusion, kiddies.

I don't understand what a "yes" or a "no" means here.

11. Do you think America deserves him? Are we worthy?
The implied statement is 1, I like him, 2, in my view he has more integrity than this nation who supported the Iraq war 70-30 deserves.

16. I think
As a general principle, the American people (and that of course includes you and I) do indeed deserve more candidates with integrity and respect for the constitution.

Yes.

10. We don't deserve him. He is probably to good for us.
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 07:26 PM by ProgressiveConn
I would love for him to be the next president of the US. Unless Clark comes out attacking the Military Industrial Complex from day one Feingold will get my primary vote. I think that either combination of Clark and Feingold is our best ticket.

Edit: I voted "complicated answer" because I feel he deserves anything positive he gets but I sure as hell don't feel the Repukes deserve him. =)

13. No
He's way too good for 'merica. He's good enough for Canada, or Sweden or something, but he's WAY too good for the U.S.A.

15. Hey, Wisconsin has spoken by re-electing him. And we were a
"battleground" State.
We'll keep him regardless of where you're at semantically.

21. Yes, but
I go with the Will Rogers idea here. He wasn't sure if Congress represented America, but he was sure that it was representative of America. I figure we all deserve each other.

That being said, from the little I've read about Feingold, I like him. His being on the Judiciary Committee gives him plenty of credibility when it comes to talking about the exact provisions of the Patriot Act that he didn't like.

The only bad thing for him, as a presidential candidate, is geography. He may just be from the wrong region during this era.

23. Who cares, I want him
BTW I think that he has a damn good shot at winning. I see him as being solid in all of the Kerry states except Pennsylvania and New Hampshire (both of which I think he would win). Wisconsin would be solid blue which would save a great deal of money and maybe Minnesota would be solid blue as well.

Plus consider that by 2008, Republican economic policies will have done a great job of fucking over the middle class and the poor, even moreso than they already have. Russ is a genuine populist in every way and I believe that he will be able to do what Kerry was unable to, appeal to people on economic interests.
