If Rep. Shays (R-Ct) is a moderate rethug.........
Why has he not called hearings to investigate Halliburton overcharges?

========================

Received by email from Rep. Waxman.

Shays is chair of the House Government Reform Committee's National Security Subcommittee. If he is a moderate rethug, why is he not scheduling hearings on Halliburton overcharges?

Administration Withheld Halliburton Overcharges from International Auditors

Rep. Waxman revealed today that Administration officials, acting at the request of Halliburton, redacted a Pentagon report to conceal more than $100 million in fuel overcharges from international auditors. In letters to government auditors, Halliburton subsidiary KBR explains that it redacted statements that it onsidered "factually inaccurate or misleading" and gives consent for the release of the audits to international auditors "in redacted form." The administration then sent the heavily redacted report to the International Advisory and Monitoring Board overseeing the Development Fund for Iraq, the fund established by the U.N. for the management of Iraq’s oil sales and foreign donations.

An interactive feature reveals the extent of the redactions in the first ten pages of the Pentagon report.

Rep. Waxman has released the original Defense Department audit report with Halliburton's edits highlighted. In light of this new information, Rep. Waxman has asked National Security Subcommittee Chairman Shays to hold immediate hearings on U.S. management of the Development Fund for Iraq.

1. A so-called liberal Repub...
who of course avoided the VN War..but supports Iraq war..

Funny how they avoided the war of their generation BUT are ok with the bushevik aventure in Iraq...

BUT he sees shortcomings..WHAT A GENIUS!

Repukes in NE are an oxymoron...
shays like other repukes claims to be a little opposed BUT is another repuke

..Chafee is ok R and so is Jeffords I

BOTH HAVE HAD MIXED VOTES FOR BUSHCO POLICY

"Despite his support for Bush's Iraq policy, Shays -- a Peace Corps volunteer and conscientious objector during the Vietnam War -- still sees shortcomings in the administration's postwar plan. "One of my criticisms is that the government is reluctant to have members of Congress go to Iraq," said Shays, who in April overcame military and the State Department objections to become the first congressman to enter Iraq since the war began. "I think it is absolutely inexcusable." "

3. I don't know if she's planning on a rematch
but the woman who ran against him last time did fairly well, IIRC.

Diane Farrell, I think?

Look, he's still a Republican, but as they go, you can do far, far worse. In CT, I'd much rather rid ourselves of Johnson and Simmons. And even they are better than many in the GOP.

If we've got to prioritize, then I'd put defeating Shays rather low on the list.
