Don't You Need a Quorum in the Senate to Pass a Bill?

Lindacooks just mentioned on another thread that the Schiavo bill was passed by only three Senators, the only three present on the weekend.

How is this possible under Senate rules? Isn't there a minimum number required for any vote? Doesn't this this invalidate the result or make it easy to overturn?

1. If no one objects, no quorum is needed. Whoever is there, votes.

Some House Dems said they would object which is why they needed a quorum in the House.

The way I understand it, if no Senator requests a quorum count, they can proceed. Sneaky, huh?

Rep Steve Largent spoke out about payoffs on the House floor ? Money actually changing hands ? That told me volumes about Largent's character and having the guts to speak out about it.

Now we've got Tom DeLay's travelling corruption show. And there isn't even a House Ethics Committee left to do anything about it. There are no more Largent's left in the Republican Party. Shame.
