Death penalty for Dr's who perform abortions?
And if you think that's below the belt, wait'll you hear this one. Tom Coburn, a Republican who was just elected U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, has a new idea: he wants to allow states to impose the death penalty for doctors who perform abortions. Hmmmm, Tom - that's what you call pro-life?

Anyone else have any more info, or did I miss a thread already on this - on vacation, in-laws are here, and still working from home on work things so have not been hanging here and paying attention like a good boy :)

1. OkieLand is One Scary State.

It is deep f**king red, man! Sorry to the few good Okies there but I am withholding my tourism dollars. I have NO REASON to visit a state where they elect certifiably insane nutjobs like Tommy Coburn.

2. Why not the death penalty for the mother?
That would shut the fundies the fuck up, since their daughters are more likely to get knocked up out of wedlock than the average child.

6. Some right wing scum think that is justice
kill anyone who has had an abortion. These maggots think they are God
Listen we all have a right to be religious or not but this shit is going to blow us all up.Who would have thought humanity could get this far and then throw it all away. What I see in the right is people who think the end is near and they want it to happen because they are too lazy to work it out.

13. Exactly...why just the doctor?
If abortion is murder and If a woman plans for an abortion doesn't that make her guilty of first degree murder? If the anti abotion crowd was intellectual honest that's the only way to look at it. Of course they are not.

3. Hypocrite alert
Dr Coburn has performed abortions.

He also performed a tubal ligation on a young girl (late teens/early twenties) without her permission. He says she said it was okay and he didn't see any need to get a signed authorization form.

The sad thing is that the dem that opposed Coburn was so not a "real dem" and Rove and his machine smeared him up one side and down the other. In OK it all came down to abortion and when you told people that Coburn admitted he had performed abortions, their heads spun and they went into deep denial OR they said he had "seen the light" and "repented".

7. Related to Coburn, can we get the death penalty for drs who sterilize
women without their consent? From what I heard about Coburn, he's guilty of unauthorized sterilization. How does that jibe with the "right to life" branch of the Republiban?

That's why they fight so hard to have anti-choice nominees for judgeships.

14. how about the women?
I've always thought that fundy logic would require the death penalty for women who have abortions.

the abortions?

18. Next it will be women who use the pill, and pharmacists who prescribe it.
Since, according to right-wing gospel, life begins at conception; the second sperm meets egg the two non-entities magically transmogrify into a FULL HUMAN BEING, with rights under the 14th amendment... therefore, since the pill can prevent implantation of a fertilized egg, it is a "murder weapon", as are IUDs...

It's no accident that the target of the right-wing judicial think tanks is not just Roe v. Wade, but also Griswold v. Connecticut, and not just because it established that pesky "right to privacy" that conservatives can't fucking stand...

Today it's legal abortion, next week it will be legal birth control-- in fact, the war on birth control is already coming out into the open, starting with these "conscience clause" laws designed to let pharmacists deny birth control pills to women.
