SOCIAL SECURITY – WATCH YOUR KNEECAPS: After hitting a couple more states as part of his 60 stops in 60 days push for his flailing Social Security plan, President Bush started showing signs of just how desperate he is to keep things afloat. Surrounded by some of his congressional enforcers, Bush began cryptically threatening any opposition: "I believe there will be bad political consequences for people who are unwilling to sit down and talk about the issue." Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who has now publicly jumped on the bandwagon, also began criticizing opponents, including the primary advocacy group for seniors, by saying, "They are recklessly minimizing the fiscal problems looming for the nation's retirement system." However, even Sen. McCain had to admit that private accounts "will not address Social Security's long-term funding problems." People are talking about the issue, and providing other suggestions, but conservatives would rather shill for their "sideshow" than focus on fixing solvency

1. His crime family has STOLEN the money
and now does not want to pay it back. Furthermore, the financial mob needs this money to keep the stock market ponzi scheme afloat.

4. I agree with you, but has this been their plan all along?
I mean, this is the lame-brainiest (?) idea that this lame-brain bunch has come up with yet. What was their original plan and what went wrong with it, so that the Money Mob has to now mug the elderly? This can't have been their plan all along; it just doesn't make sense...

8. SS piratization is the centerpiece of the Neocon domestic agenda.
Every time a retiree gets his/her SS check in the mail, it's a clear reminder that Roosevelt and the New Deal era Democrats STILL control a big chunk of the Federal government, tying up all those lovely dollars in an essentially socialist income-redistribution system. It drives the radical right "fuck the poor" crowd absolutely bugshit, and has for almost three generations; they'd rather see Granny eat cat food than get a dime from the government. Also, it galls them that every time Granny deposits her SS check, she whispers a silent "thank you" (or should, anyway) to FDR and the Democrats.

6. Still waiting on that quote to pay off for Kerry.
Our music group director was trying to get some emotion out of us last night and he was talking about how upset he was about the school shootings, etc. and a local accident that took 3 teens lives. Talking about how he finds solace in music. He asked us, probably not really looking for an answer, if we have ever felt at a loss for everything. Totally overwhelmed with grief.

I told him "yes", ever since the morning of November 5th and about 15 of the 25 people present agreed with me.

9. I'm not sure that quote works on individuals.
I think Ghandi was talking about a movement.

Sure, movements have leaders. But I think it's crucial not to blur the two.

The progressive movement cannot be stopped unless we (collectively) give up. I don't know who will lead us. It may be one superstar or a series of diverse individuals.

But the movement is what will win.

3. I believe Durbin was seated when he said
"If the president takes privatization off, if he makes a commitment to the future of Social Security, we're ready to sit down on a bipartisan basis and put everything on the table."
