US declares Venezuela a rogue nation... more war for oil
Senior US administration officials are working on a policy to “contain” Hugo Chávez, the Venezuelan president, and what they allege is his drive to “subvert” Latin America's least stable states.

A strategy aimed at fencing in the government of the world's fifth-largest oil exporter is being prepared at the request of President George W. Bush and Condoleezza Rice, secretary of state, senior US officials say. The move signals a renewed interest by the administration in a region that has been relatively neglected in recent years.

Relocated to Miami (Florida, USA), UK Financial Times correspondent Andy Webb-Vidal writes that senior US administration officials are working on a policy to “contain” Hugo Chavez ... the Venezuelan President ... and what they allege is his drive to “subvert” Latin America's least stable states.

Here we go, people. This is the shot across the bow. The US is going to war with Venezuela soon because Venezuela decided to use his oil profits to help the people of Venezuela and not the American companies. We did it in Afghanistan, we did it in Iraq, we've done it in other places, and next on the list is Venezuela.

Every dollar you spend on gas contributes to this.

I'm getting on the phone with Boxer's office right now to tell her that she MUST NOT VOTE to give Bush the ability to do violence in Venezuela.

The call is in, I have made myself heard. Go and do likewise.

1. In Iraq, when the lies were discovered the war rationale became
"to overthrow a tyrant".
Hugo Chavez is a democratically elected leader. How the hell will they be able to spin this one so it's not about the oil?

8. Maybe we'll see another forced voluntary resignation like Aristide
the democratically elected President of Haiti.

2. Okay, call me an optimist, but I highly doubt this is a war in the making
Attacking Venezuela I doubt is an option. The public wouldn't go for it above say attacking Syria or Iran.

I think they're just trying to flex their muscles with hopes that Venezuela won't see the Lame Duck feathers.

3. No democracy for Venezuelans. They wanted the oil wealth to go
to help the distribution of wealth. NOPE.

4. Our thirst for oil
has given the leaders of these geologically-blessed lands inordinate power on the world stage for the first time in history. Fifty years ago we assasinated or overthrew democratically elected govts because they wanted to nationalize the oil fields. Today they've got us by the ball joints of our SUVs.

I don't think the US could justify any type of military intervention given today's international climate...

6. I think you've got it backwards.
We relied on a fuel source that is finite and non-renewable, it's running out, and we're pissed off. We forget that we walked up to the noose, stood on the chair, put our own heads in the nooses, and are now kicking the chair over.

We could have built electric mag-lev trains and we could have run them on coal, you know.

We need them, it's not the other way around.

5. Our best hope is that the countries of Latin America, the Caribbean, and
the Bahamas don't allow this containment.

A question for you....if Venezuela and China agreed on a lot of exchanges and China and the U.S. are partnering....will China defend Venezuela - I don't mean militarily....I mean with diplomacy and 'containment' of Bush and Rice?

Hell, maybe even Hopalong Zarqawi will be spotted there, since he's the terra poster boy of the moment, apparently.

On edit:

Small scale producer of opium and coca.

According to the White House,

http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/streetterms/ByType.asp?intTypeID=5

this is known as a "Belushi," a "blanco," a "boy-girl," a "chocolate rock," a "dragon rock," "dynamite," an "eightball,"a "goofball," an "H and C," a "he-she," a "moonrock," a "murder one," a "sandwich," a "scramble," "smoke," a "smoking gun," a "snowball," a "speedball," "tar," a "whiz-bang," or a "woolie."

So when he says he found a "smoking gun" in Venezuela, we'll be onto him, right kids?
