All this talk about having a living will...why bother?

Apparently, legal documents have no meaning to the Congress. If they cannot even respect the Constitution and rule of law at this level, what makes anyone think the republicans would give a crap about your crummy living will?

2. not so quick-there was a brief report yesterday saying that DHHS had

made some rule changes to protect physicians and it was necessary to check on you living will if you have not in a number of years. I did not catch it all.

The parents would probably have ignored it and do the same thing. They are saying she is not on life support as she is breathing by herself and even say she is trying to speak.

They clearly would do the same thing living will or not.

5. The Schindlers are messed up

I feel very badly for them, but for Christ's sake, they've lost the ability to be reasonable. I know they're in a world of pain, but this stuff about "taking Terri to breakfast" and her smiling at him. My god, man...let your daughter go and live out your own final days in peace. Please!

7. Losing my empathy

I know they are in terrible pain, but the 15 YEARS this has gone on has made it impossible for her parents to face reality and let go for her sake, not their's. To say Terri will be speaking in a week and is sharing conversations with them even now is so far off the deep end, you have to wonder about the brother and sister and what's in this for them to go along with this crap.

But this is no reason for Bush to be allowed to shred our Constitution. Personally I think our Living Wills have NO value anymore. If some relative wanted to challenge mine they only would have to say I was coerced into signing it. That, and then yelling 'Pray to Jesus' would bring Bush and Co. running to 'save me'. We are now a theocracy.

12. Before a recent surgery...

I was told I had to bring my 'medical directive' (DNR) with me. Basically, they asked to see it and then informed me that they do not honor them. So I'm not sure what good they are.
