Check in if your local news is covering the protests!
I've been boycotting them too, but will watch if they're covering. I'm so disappointed that FreeSpeechTV had no coverage either. They've done a great job with protests in the past. Thanks to all who protested!!

7. Channel 6 in Portland, ME
THey had a report at 6pm on the "thousands" protesting in London and the "dozens" locally at the State House in Augusta. They had video coverage and interviewed local activists.

Good work!

8. Here on the west coast I just saw some GREAT coverage
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 08:35 PM by senseandsensibility
of the San Francisco protests on KRON-4 in the Bay Area. It was very fair and balanced, even....dare I say it, positive? Right after the coverage of everyone marching, they went to a report on more violence in Iraq today. It is important that the average viewer see why we are still protesting, and that everything is not wonderful in Iraq, as others try to convince us . I will e-mail them my thanks. Any Northern Californians, please watch the repeats of KRON local coverage later today, and send them supportive e-mails!!! The reports said thousands marched.
Edited to add that KRON, channel 4 will re-run at nine o'clock, pacific time.

9. Seattle had good coverage
just watched the local news, lead story on abc, even interviewed a reservist's wife, who said that she believes there are times when using the military is needed, but this is not one of them. they interviewed a couple other people, showed a lot of protestor's signs, and interviewed a young bleached blond bimbo who was stopped in traffic with a * sticker on her car, she said that she didn't know how the protests of some people on the other side of the country would make a difference unless * was watching. what a moron! is that the best her little bleached head could come up with?

2nd story on nbc, about the same length, interviewed a couple protestors, including asking one her respone to the sentiment that the protests are "unpatriotic". she didn't laugh, as I would have done, but smoothly answered that protesting is practicing our democratic rights, and that while she doesn't support the war, she supports the troops who've been sent there based on lies. and then a pro war /"supporting the troops" guy standing on an overpass, he said, "well, I'd like to ask the anti-war protestors how they would have gotten rid of saddam?" gee, sounds like he put a lot of thought into his response, all brawn no brain, just like the government mentality.

cbs has the other March Madness

10. Los Angeles local news (ABC) covered in first 5 minutes.
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 08:25 PM by Pithy Cherub
There were (to 'their' estimates) about 1500 protestors from a multitude of organizations. The signs were great and the streets were blocked off. They also had two marines who were completely appalled that there was such a large demonstration. A Lance Corporal felt personally aggreived by it. There were veterans in the Protestors group and seniors very outspoken. Mike Farrell was also present.

The best was the story that followed: About the exhibit Eyes Wide Open. The actual boots of over 1500 of the fallen military personnel are displayed with their names and pictures. The boots are the actual boots of the individuals.

Must say the local people were pretty decent today! sp

11. Locally in NYC, yes . . .
The local NYC NBC and ABC affiliates led off their 6:00 p.m. newscasts with coverage that was more extensive than I'd have thought it would be. The local news on CBS was pre-empted by basketball, however.

16. Lincoln Nebraska
The 'big dawg' station here had the protests as its top story, 4-5 mintues of nothing but coverage of the protests, shocked the hell out of me. It was an amazingly very good report. The station covers Lincoln and the middle of the state, very shocking indeed.

18. KCAL 9 at 9 PM in LA
They announced the protest coverage as a teaser during their 8 o'clock. It was the first story for the 9 o'clock show. They started with the Hollywood protest (I was there!) where they say there were 2 thousand people. Then they covered NYC, San Fran, Milwaukee and Minneapolis where they showed the coffins covered in flags and people getting arrested for lying down in the street. They showed one arrested woman getting into a police van and someone asked "is the arrest worth it?" she said "we have to take a position, it's time we did something." Then they showed Fayetteville, NC where 2500 people protested. Then they showed London with 45,000 protesters where they started in Hyde Park before reaching the US Embassy. They went to Rome where there were thousands protesting and showed an Italian man saying - "we're saying no to *'s politics of war it's just another side of terrorism." They said Sweden, Turkey and Norway also had protests and closed with saying there were over 500 cities that scheduled protests in the US. Then they cut to *'s radio address insisting the war was the right move. :puke:

I was really surprised that they spent so much time on it. And they seemed to emphasize the visuals of the coffins and all the great signs- especially the ones saying "impeach bush."

20. I just searched the Houston Chronicle
website for ANYTHING on the Houston protests. We had hundreds of people turn out. NOTHING! I just sent them a harsh e-mail demanding they write up something about it. Pictures of the Houston protest are up on the CNN International edition, and the protests across the US were CNN International's lead article on its home page! But my own protest in my own city-- nothing. Crazy!

25. If your local media is participating i the blackout or spinning coverage..
This morning, CSPAN Journal has 2-1/2 hours of open phone lines with no scheduled guests.

1. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=320x79

2. When there, get the email address or phone numbers to call CSPAN.

3. Ref "senseandsensability's" question concerning your local media outlets coverage of protests and rallies marking the 2nd anniversary of the start of the bombing and occupation, register your contempt of MSM if it is being ignored. Share your knowledge of the events posted here and ask who is responsible for deciding that news is not worthy of air time.
