Here in NW Ohio, at least where I live, 99% of the people profess to be conservative and work themselves into a lather if you suggest that they have any liberal/progressive tendencies.
But, here we are with a conservative government at the federal, state and local levels. The feds are cutting, the state is cutting and passing the buck to the local governments.
Isn't that one of the core beliefs of conservatives? Less control at the top and placed at the local level?
Everybody acts like lemmings and bitches that we gotta cut taxes. We pay too much taxes. But, when Governor Taft proposes cuts in funding in order to cut taxes and balance the budget, everybody gets angry and protests that cuts are good as long as you're not cutting MY programs. MY livelihood.
I've seen people like Ken Blackwell, State Sen. Jim Jordan and others run all over the place and preach the "cut taxes" line, and everyone swoons over them. But none of these politicians have said specifically what programs would be cut in order for the state to afford the tax cuts. As for Jordan, he's always preaching tax cuts. But when the state shut down the Lima Correctional Facility, it was Jordan and his other conservative cohorts at the front saying that you can't cut from my district.
I work for an agency that's 99% Republican (my estimate). But when Taft announced his cuts, all of these people had a fit.
To all of you self-professed conservatives: If you really believe what you say, then you have to take your fair share of the cuts when times are tough. Don't go preaching that you believe in conservative economic values as long as someone else has to take the brunt of the cuts.
