Joe Wilson on Al Franken's show said Philip Agee outed CIA spys
but not too long ago Barbara Bush withdrew similar claims from her book after Agee sued her. Is Air America liable to be sued along with Joe Wilson for defaming Agee ?

1. No, they would sue the person making the remark.

2. So what responsibility does Air America have for airing those remarks ?
I note that Edwin Wilson is now out of the slammer, despite his 'activities' for the Libyans (don't know about Frank Terpil). What gives with the Bush's and the CIA's efforts regarding Philip Agee ?

Why can't they just leave well enough alone ?

4. Well, they don't. They are airing a person's opinion and you know
how many of those types of remarks are said daily on much wealthier shows than AAR.

3. Inside the Company: The CIA Diary
i didn't read this book but if you look up the reviews on Amazon, they seem to indicate that names of CIA operatives were disclosed ... it's not clear from the reviews whether Agee's book violated any laws or exactly what the circumstances were surrounding disclosures ...

not much info there but thought I would add this to your thread ...

6. There wasn't exactly a law against it at the time
He's why they passed the newer law (his book and his magazine, that is), during Bush I's term.

7. So does anyone know the particulars of why Barbara Bush erased the stuff
from her book in order to get out of Agee's lawsuit ?

Seems like the Bush's are being hoisted upon their own petard here since the supposed bad guy Agee wins in court...and still manages bad press in 'progressive' radio.

What are the Bush's doing right and/or wrong in this complicated scenario ?

8. IIRC,
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 03:54 PM by Monkey see Monkey Do
the names in "Inside the Company" were already published in a book called something like "Who's who at the CIA" which was published (allegedly by the KGB) in Europe several years earlier.

9. What's so odd about the 'who's who' aspect of all of this is the CIAs
own Operation Mockingbird with practically the entire journalistic world getting 'payola' to sing along with Mitch (WerBell) !

The Mighty Wurlitzer pretty much has everyone singing from the same songbook even when it doesn't make any sense. Take Vietnam and Iraq. Looks like Sen McCain's prediction, that we'll be there for '10 or 20 years' made on CNN awhile back, was more like a regurgitation of something he'd read.

Just like VietNam, they will end up destroying the economy and the only way out will be cutting the funding. Nothing else matters much in the meantime so back to the saltmine...
