Why we HAD to invade Iraq
I just realized what the rationale for post preemptive invasion is, expressed in purely mathematical terms suitable for discussion with people who dont understand.
Saddam killed "X" number of Iraqis
So we had to invade and kill "Z" to remove him and set things right.
I feel better already.
What a revelation.
What number of the beast?

1. You got it.
I thought there was only ONE overriding reason for invading Iraq. Many hundreds of hours later (after reading hundreds of articles on the Internet), I now know that there was a multitude of reasons.

All of them wrong.

Now, to get validation for your hunches, go to Counter Punch. There are some outstanding articles about how the US has a need to create "Villains", or "Bad Guys" in order to continue their policies.

2. We invaded Iraq because we had to kick some Arab ass
And they were the easiest country with oil to overthrow in the region. It helped that Americans already knew Saddam was evil re: Gulf War I so it made it an easy sell.

That is all. PNAC, act I.

3. Bush wanted to solidify his mandate for a Republican era
and has been partially sucessful. Sadly though it'll come back to haunt us, but we can benefit mildly off the backlash from the terrible mistake.
