The bright side of the ANWR loss...
Edited on Wed Mar-16-05 03:39 PM by 4_Legs_Good
Well, at least there's a bright side to the loss in the Senate wrt ANWR.

Americans will see that this oil is not coming from overseas, and so they'll cherish it. They'll think twice about it. They'll conserve. They'll say to themselves, "This oil is coming from one of our most specialest areas, I am not going to waste it on some crazy-assed SUV, I'm going to buy an economical car that will show the Alaskan oil that I truly respect it."

There's NO WAY that this oil will be used as an excuse to build vehicles with even shittier gas mileage. Americans THINK about the oil and other resources they use. They CARE about where it comes from. I think ANWR will usher in a new age of conservation the likes of which we haven't seen in ages.

Now, I'm off to get my private account set up for Social Security which will be exactly what we need to save this program!

Then I'm going to pick up some vouchers for my son so that we can save the local public schools.

After that I'm going to launch an illegal, unconstitutional invasion of a soverign nation so I can keep the world peaceful!

Have a good day! :)

3. Good Lord YES!!!
I'm being sarcastic and depressed.

Americans don't give a shit where their energy comes from. It's the only way to explain our scizophrenia when it comes to loving SUVs and hating middle eastern regimes.

I'm so depressed.

9. We probably *will* start cherishing it, but it will happen when
gasoline starts costing $4-5/gallon. The only way to make people conserve a resource is to make it expensive.

11. I couldn't agree more
All ANWR will do is destroy another wild area so that we can drive YET HEAVIER, less efficient cars.

Look what happened with the oil embargo. We went quickly from muscle cars all over the place to much more efficient vehicles in, what, a decade? Fuel efficiency was doubled, more or less. Why? Because gas was expensive.

Make gas less expensive, alls we're gonna see is bigger damned cars.

I'm so depressed.

7. Hey! Don't get huffy about farms now!
Americans ***LOVE*** the family farmer! We'll fight to the death to abolish the estate tax so that families can keep their farms!

Now I'm off to WalMart to buy a lb of beef for $0.29 and then to a bushel of apples for $1.14 and 5 dozen eggs for $2.19.

8. They will do this under an extremely watchful eye.
 They will at least create an appearance of low environmental impact. We will just have to hope they do it right.

10. Hmmmmmm...
I'm more of the mind that we stop it by force if needs be.

Americans (what was it 55%-36%?) don't want drilling in Alaska. When the government rejects the will of the people, what can we do but stop them by another means?

Reminds me of that one letter thingie that Whatshisname Jefferson wrote in 1776.

17. I'm gonna celebrate our energy independence
by buying a Hummer -- and maybe one of those big-ass RVs that get really shitty gas mileage.

And I'm gonna put a bumper sticker on my Hummer that says, "I Love Alaskan Caribou -- They're Delicious."

And then I'm gonna install a coal-burning furnace in my house and dump all my unused solvents and pesticides into the storm drain.

Cuz I'm a major league Republican asshole on steroids and I don't give a shit about anybody but myself.
