3. little secret
everything is propaganda. But on Drudge as everywhere, figure out the source and see if you believe the source.

6. my general rule regarding Drudge:
if he links to a story, then it's usually legit. His "developing stories" that never end up linking to an actual article are worthless bs.

8. I trust anything negative it says about the Right Wing
Because he only prints negative stuff about them
1) if it's really juicy
2) if it's undeniably true (and probably going to come out elsewhere)
3) once in a blue moon

9. Resist the urge to click on Drudge for news. Don't give him the hit.
Instead, click on www.Buzzflash.com . Much better news-links and opinion.

10. It totally doesn't matter
links are links; when he produces "stories" on his own, they're suspect but most of his site every day is LINKS. You can't fake links!

That said, he is the grand-daddy of internet news sites and he gets over 9 million hits A DAY....3.3 BILION in the past year. Ignore DrudgeReport at your peril if you're keen on staying ahead of breaking stories.

But most of all: every newsroom and press room in America reads him daily, and that's reflected in their choice of lead stories. Everyone at DU should be all over that site, not because we agree, but because it is truly influential, for better or worse.

DON'T BE AN OSTRICH, FOLKS! YOU CAN NEVER DEFEAT THE OPPOSITION BY IGNORING IT!

Those tender-types at DU who can't muster the energy to even look at Drudge are only keeping themselves in the dark -- making them USELESS as political operatives.

11. Nice argument but there are plenty of places to get real news
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 05:00 PM by Democrat 4 Ever
without the BS that I don't have to worry if Matt Sludge makes one single penny off my time. Sludge lives in this surreal world of "faux journalism" that allows him to see him self as a real news entity when he really is just a poor writer of lame fairy tales and lies. What he doesn't steal off someone else he just makes up - hence, there is no need to go there. The sheeple are welcome to him and his site.

*dumb typo

13. Ignore Drudge Report at your peril? Tender-types at DU?
Like me? Bwaaa haaa haaa! I manage to stay adequately informed without Drudge. I am familiar with his product, and it is inferior. Keep rewarding Drudge's egregious "reporting" at your peril .. indeed, at our collective peril. Drudge is not the "opposition." He is a pathetic pretender, much like "Jeff Gannon." Drudge has ridden that Lewinsky wave way too long.

BTW: Useful "political operatives" come in many stripes. I totally avoid Drudge and Fox News. Yet I have progressive op/ed pieces and LTTEs printed quite frequently. Am I USELESS as a political operative? How about avoiding that broad brush in the future.

20. no offense but
his breaking stories are 99.9 percent of the time from AP or Reuters. All of his other bullshit like his incessant harping about Chris Rock is nothing more than fluff suitable to the mentality of his fans. whoops.

15. Three things about Drudge
1. He uses photos better than any site I've seen on the Net. They're often subtle and pointed, and sometimes sexy or hilarious.

2. He has a keen ability for finding the big story before it's big. One often gets tomorrow's headlines today on his site.

3. He's unquestionably slanted to the right, but his main thing is scandal - this will always trump his political affiliation, which makes him a must read.

I agree with the poster above, avoid Drudge at your own peril. He's got a finger on the pulse of what stories have legs. I also agree that his own little snippets are useless.

19. It's all an illusion that he has a finger on the pulse
unless you give him that credibility, which he doesn't deserve. I'm sorry but I read drudge for over five years ten times a day until Novemeber 3rd and since then, I wondered why I ever bothered at all. I don't miss his site one bit, and on the rare occasion I do check it, he has nothing of truth or relevancy. he caters to the right with lies and distortions and tabloidism -- exactly what their minds are able to handle. What they can't handle is the truth. And above all that, Drudge is sucked into the numbers game, hence his addiction to posting his hits. But knock yourself out by visiting him, so far I have seen no evidence that drudge is in any way relevant to reality.

16. I don't understand why DUers go to his site.
The more clicks he gets, the more money he gets. Help keep his hit count down and stay off the damned site.

17. Reading Drudge destroys brain cells.
People who defend reading Drudge are therefore operating with fewer brain cells, making their defense suspect.

Please note that Drudge was on Crossfire a couple years ago, bragging about how high his profit margin is because he has no overhead. In other words, he was proud that he employs no fact-checkers.
