My LTTE in The Day: Bush Not That Much Better Than Saddam

A letter writer stated, “You say Bush scares you? What about Saddam Hussein? Can you imagine what would happen to you and your family if you had a bumper sticker on your car in Iraq that said ‘Saddam scares me?'” (When you really think about it, Bush is OK,” March 4.)

It's true that the bumper sticker “Bush scares me” doesn't convey the truth about the actual situation here. It should say, “Democracy terrifies Bush.”

If President George W. Bush is better than Saddam Hussein, why does he fear dissent by stocking his campaign stops with pro-Bush stooges who won't challenge his corrupt policies, broken promises and deceitful rhetoric?

If President Bush is better than Saddam, why does President Bush fear American citizens exercising their Constitutional Rights by keeping nonviolent anti-Bush protesters out of his sight during his scheduled visits? Neither Bill Clinton nor Al Gore did that.

If President Bush is better than Saddam, why does President Bush fear the United States Constitution by sending innocent Muslims, like those from Canada, to Syria at U.S. taxpayer expense to be tortured by Syrians, and by championing the anti-civil rights passages in the Patriot Act?

If President Bush is better than Saddam, why does President Bush fear telling the truth about his plans for this nation by blatantly misleading the American people about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, Social Security's solvency, No Child Left Behind bill and tax cuts?

It sounds like the author of that letter hasn't been paying attention to how the George Bush-Dick Cheney administration is the most corrupt and deceitful administration since Richard Nixon. I suggest he read John Dean's book, “Worse than Watergate.”

1. Well written...

Here's the John Dean quote I posted the other day:

"George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney have created the most secretive presidency of my lifetime. Their secrecy is far worse than that of Watergate, and it bodes even more serious consequences." (It's actually on the back slip cover of the book.)

If President Bush is better than Saddam, why does he feel the need for a Saddam-regime-like control of public information?

2. Yeah, but, but, but Saddam was a bad guy who gassed some of his own
people with chemical agents purportedly acquired from a Western power, or so it has been said.

3. P.S. All your troubling questions merit a full and truthful response
and even refutation in any instance wherein not based on substantive fact.

4. Only thing Bush Hasn't done YET
is stand on the Truman balcony of the White House with a .30-06 propped on his hip and let off a few rounds over the city of Washington.
