(Please read the whole article. Some interesting revelations, that answer alot of questions some of us have had. No wonder Biden is always on the Talking Head/Pundit Shows!)

Delaware: America's First State...in Democratic sellouts

That's funny, because we started thinking as we were preparing this blog post, why is it that Joe Biden is the first Democrat who's willing to sell out his party's working class base, to favor a rich and powerful campaign contributor from his home state?

And why is his Delaware Senate colleague, Sen. Tom Carper, willing to drink MBNA's Kool-aid at the same time?

Biden and Carper were two of the 14 Democrats who thwarted efforts to prevent passage of the federal bankruptcy bill . That measure is long a favorite of Wilmington-based credit-card giant MBNA, because it will make it harder for debt-plagued Americans (many of whom were lured down the path to insolvency by aggressive credit-card marketing tactics) to clear the debt in bankruptcy court. In a 2005 America where the big corporation seems to always beat the little guy, this is a pretty big win for the money boys.

Biden's been carrying MBNA's water on this issue for years. In 2000, when the plan was effectively stalled because a real Democrat named Bill Clinton was in the White House, he even tried to attach the bankruptcy changes to a foreign aid bill.

Why is Biden such a big fan. Those less cynical than us might argue that, well, MBNA does employ a lot of people in Delaware. True -- but could it also be because MBNA is Biden's biggest contributor -- by a good margin. According to Opensecrets.org, Biden raised some $147,700 in contributions from MBNA employees from 1999-2004, his biggest source of campaign cash.

1. if Biden thinks he is going to become the Dem nominee in '08
by going this route, he is sadly mistaken.

2. To all of those who defend PNAC Biden for "representing his state"....
...I suggest you read this part again.

3. Don't forget his son
who also has his snout in MBNA's trough. Biden is taking
care of Biden and nobody else. I don't care if he turns
into a liberal wet dream now, that bill is pure poison and
he's shoving it down our throats and telling us it's candy.

4. Biden's son has $100, 000 retainer/MBNA to advise on Internet Privacy!
Can you believe!

Here's the snip:

The company also has ties to Senator Biden's son, R. Hunter Biden, a lawyer in Washington. Hunter Biden joined MBNA as a management trainee after graduating from Yale Law School and rose to be an executive vice president. Now a partner in Oldaker, Biden & Belair, a lobbying and law firm, he receives a $100,000 annual retainer from MBNA to advise it on "the Internet and privacy law," Mr. Freeh said. He added that Hunter Biden was not a registered lobbyist and did not lobby on legislation for the company.

5. I would say "un-fucking-believable"...
...if we weren't talking about a DLC/PNAC/corporatist shitbag. Nothing these people do can surprise me anymore. It's time to get rid of them.

Ideological purity? You bet your ass! It's either that, or ideological extinction. And that's a world I don't care to live in (see "Soviet Union under Josef Stalin" in any encyclopedia)

6. We have two progressive senators in Michigan....
but they both voted against raising mileage standards for the auto industry a few years back. Home state big corporate interests seem to trump everything else in politics.

7. Given Biden's son's interests with MBNA I think he should have abstained
from voting on the bankruptcy bill. This is clear evidence of "conflict of interest." To me, anyway.

8. Biden has become the latest addition to the betrayal list
that the DLC seems to embody these days. What a jerk-- not only did Biden vote in support of the bankruptcy bill, he opposed an amendment that would have allowed for some modifications for people with medical expenses.
