Dems have won 1st legislative victory ("Clear Skies Initiative")
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 09:42 PM by wildflower
Spread the word!

They were just talking about it on the Majority Report.

ON EDIT: It was Bill Scher; he said this is the first victory for the Dems since the start of W's second term.

Something to celebrate anyway, especially after the bankruptcy vote.

From http://www.liberaloasis.com:

Another reminder of what Dems can accomplish when they stand together.

Hopefully, the party will do all it can to spike the ball on this first legislative victory in Dubya’s second term, and highlight which party is the defender of the public well-being, and which is the shill for irresponsible corporations.

So far, there doesn’t appear to be any PR effort to crow, not even any posts on official party websites. That can and should change before the week is out.

If Dems can’t properly claim victory when they get the chance, they won’t build a record of accomplishment that will bolster their political capital as it drains the GOP’s.

1. Baucus, Obama and.... Chaffee(R) were the potential swing votes
who stood with us... good for them, I've already written to let them know how I appreciate it.

2. Obama a swing vote, really? I'm surprised.
I agree, we should thank them when they do well; helps to encourage them and general morale.

4. Illinois has a lot of coal
I am surprised that Obama did stick with us on this, it was a very courageous vote for him.

3. It's great that those Dems stood together in the panel
It gave Chafee (A Republican who was the real swing vote) a reason to stand against the far right on this profoundly bad piece of legislation....

It's a good example of how Dems not selling out can win legislative battles....

(this one, unfortunately will get punted to EPA- which will probably make most of the changes itself, administrativelywithout worrying with Congress).
