1. The bankruptcy bill will be voted on
wonder if any Dem Senators had a change
of heart overnight.

4. Doesn't matter. They only need 51 votes to pass this giveaway to banks
Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 10:35 AM by flpoljunkie
and credit card companies, and there are 55 Republicans in the Senate. The Democrats gave this one away when they voted for cloture on the underlying bankruptcy bill. The Democrats could have stopped the bill in its tracks, but they chose not to do so. The vote was 69-31. Shame on those Democrats who crossed the aisle to betray their constituents. If Democrats cannot stand for and stand up for economic justice, they are indeed, DINO.

They put the profits of the banks and credit card companies above the interests of average Americans who are forced to file for bankruptcy. This bill is skewed to the interests of the credit card companies for even greater profits ($30billion in 2004) and the wealthy, who can continue to protect their assets from bankruptcy through the use of assets trusts--not available to the average working American taxpayer.

2. Did anyone watch the budget in the House committee yesterday
Amendment after amendment proposed by Democrats
shot down in committee, and Americans wonder
why we can't get any reasoned legislation.
This coverage was priceless.

5. Kennedy was on this morning?
Well, that would have been a much
better way to meet the day.

He was great last night.
Got Orrin the mutant on mute.

"Madame Chairman, freedom is a fragile thing and never
more than one generation away from extinction....
it must be fought for and defended..."

sounds like a good speech coming along here.

19. Durbin laid it out straight
The repubs are promoting a bill to advantage the credit card industry. The credit card industry has lots of friends in the senate today. The repubs stand in lockstep against ANY softening of the bill because the credit card industry doesn't want the ammendment.

If someone is the victim of identity theft, how is that a moral failure equating to someone just not wanting to pay their bills?

If a Vet is wounded and has lost his business because he was called up to Iraq, how is that a moral failur equating to someone just not wanting to pay their bills?

He went on in this light, offering one more ammendment to release wounded Iraq Vets from some aspects of the bill. He gave the Repubs one more chance to stand with the American people, not with the credit card companies.

BRAVO! He was excellent!

...and ask him to explain to the folks at home why he supports this horrible bankruptcy bill. He deserves the embarassment.
