HOORAY For Aaron Brown!
Just now talking about Dan Rather. Even though he did refer to Cronkite, the piece was very complimentary.

Good to see some of Today's Media standing up for the guy! Rather WAS brash, but damn he was GOOD!

1. how anyone can see Aaron Brown as a friend of the left is beyond me.
He was kind to rather post-resignation. During the whole controversy, he was right in there shilling for AOL/Time Warner.

3. He May Lean Right At Times...
But I've always gotten the feeling that he was more Dem than Repuke. Maybe I just haven't watched him enough. The tube just happened to be on that channel and I thought he seemed to be genuine.

I'm no authority, but I certainly don't think he's anything like some of the others such as Wolfie Blitzer!

4. No Dem, Just a Jornalist
We don't know how to take Aaron Brown because he is becoming unique. A conservative journalist who tries to report in a fair manner. We don't see much of that in the US anymore.

5. That's probably true--to a point. But i've never seen him
do a story that strays too far from the corporate MSM line a la olberman, who to my mind is no flaming liberal in his own right.

Part of being an old-fashioned, conservative journalist is independence--and i don't see a lot of that from ol' Aaron.

7. Why is that bad?
looking at www.opensecrets.org AOL/Time Warner gave 59% Dems vs 41% to Repubs. So, if he was shilling for them, maybe he was shilling 59 percent of the time for the left and 41 percent of the time for the right? ;)

8. Donations aside, their editorial bent seems pretty pro-bush to me
Edited on Wed Mar-09-05 11:07 PM by John_H
Corporate donations sometimes tend to be issue specific, rather than ideological as editorial policy usually is. It could be--and I'm not up on AOL/TW's lobbying efforts--that they were trying to get some dem votes on an bill or amendment they want passed.
