George W. Bush -- A hollow man speaking hollow words.
Edited on Wed Mar-09-05 06:17 PM by Cyrano
Look back over the past four years and compare the words George W. Bush has spoken to his deeds. He's an empty man to whom words, thought and basic human decency mean nothing.

Which makes him either one of the greatest fools in recorded history, a willing marionette controlled by Cheney/Rove & Co., or perhaps both.

As a devout agnostic, I am hesitant to use the term "evil." Yet, I believe that what some might call "a great evil" has descended upon us. And not just in foreign policy. It's taken hold here at home.

Most DUers don't need the litany of unconstitutional crimes this administration has committed. The saddest part is that Republican politicians who like to call themselves, (or pose as), "good Christians," are going along with what, in a sane era, would be called crimes against humanity.

So as I've asked so often on DU, what do those of us who still hold some hope for the human species do now?

1. Go ahead...
...use the term "evil".
Don't be shy. They're not!

I'm not shy about the word "evil." But my agnosticism cautions me against the use of the term. However, thanks for the moral support.

(edited for spelling.)

9. Reverend,...what this neoCON-controlled administration does is evil.
I have no problem calling it as I see it.

I will not mesh their EVIL among the blind, ignorant, oppressed, desperate and vulnerable that they USE AND MANIPULATE!!!

But, I will name their actions appropriately,...their actions are EVIL.

2. In answer to your question, I don't know....
But when all else fails, I say to myself, "I refuse to stand idly by and let this country be destroyed by this psychopathic brat."

That gives me the impetus to write out one more check to the DNC, to call/write the politicians and submit letters to the editor, to attend protests, to sign petitions, to work on local races, etc.

I just refuse to accept that bully boy will get away with bringing this country down.

5. There are some 56 million of us who feel the same way.
Yet they're controlling the levers of power (including whatever levers we might pull in the election booth).

The real question here is what do we do to counter them? We can't protest in the streets as they will actually shoot people down. (Remember Kent State? Multiply it by a thousand. These swine are answerable to no one.)

IMO, we are on the verge of an absolute dictatorship. And I only hope I'm an off-the-wall paranoid with this evaluation. But if I'm not, what the hell do we do?

6. Strength in numbers?
Maybe the answer lies somewhere in what you just said.

There are at least 56 million of us who cherish democracy and abhor Bushco and their brutal, anti-democracy policies. How to harness the power of the millions who voted against him is my question. How to empower us as a block that cannot be denied?

7. I don't know. Without a charismatic leader,
the intervention of some benign aliens, or action by some possible supreme being, we're totally screwed. I hate to be so negative, but after the last election (assuming it was not a fixed/faux election) the majority are so incredibly stupid that we are irreversibly on the road to a specifically cruel sector of hell.

8. Cyrano sez: "Yet they're controlling the levers of power."
DemoTex sez: Not only are "they" controlling the levers of power, but "they" are totally consolidating the levers of power. That is the scary part. Generations of GOP hegemony. God have mercy on this once great country. We are fucked. Know what I mean, Vern?

Oh shit!

10. As the Tao Te Ching says (paraphrasing)
It is great hollowness that makes great crapfulness possible. The one springs from the other.

Without the near-supernatural emptiness between his ears, Bush would not have room for the prodigious quantities of excrement we know to be there. His capacity defies our common perception of the three dimensions. His skull is a Turd Tardis.
