Guess who has four (count'em 4!) tickets to hear King Chimpy tomorrow?
Edited on Wed Mar-09-05 10:59 AM by Democrat 4 Ever
Took a shot, called one of the repug Senator of my state that is impersonating an elected official (McConnell), I just assumed that Bunning would just do whatever the Chimp and Butthead said so I didn't bother his office - and asked for four tickets to hear the Chimp try to preach the Social Security sell out tomorrow in Louisville. Well, beyond anything that is wise or reasonable his office just called and said they had four tickets waiting for me to pick up. I, honestly, never thought I'd get one ticket, much less four.

So, a couple of things are pretty clear. 1 - They are having a hard time giving the damn things away. 2 - That their screening procedure is not fool proof and 3 - I have to decide exactly what I can and can not do tomorrow to let the a$$wipes know my displeasure. Any suggestions? I can't say I'm really anxious to get arrested but I am willing to take a shot to ask him a question.

Oh, by the way - I've got three tickets if anyone is interested in going into Satan's kitchen tomorrow at 12 noon.

9. Well, if they ask me to sign something before giving me the tickets
I will immediately leave their office and go one block over to the state's largest newspaper and tell them that I was not allowed to attend without signing a loyalty oath. Those guys need to get it through their heads they work for me, not the other way around. May not get anywhere, but who knows, maybe it will be a nice side story to all of the air and traffic tie-up stories due to the coming of the Chimp and his Buttboy.

7. Maybe 4- some repugs are actually seeing Chimpy for what he is
and would like to see that he gets the message...

Or 5 (please let us know you are okay...!!!!!!) a sting operation. In which you show up only to get arrested. A friend of mine was talking about that a few days ago. Wondering when BUSHCO would let those who disagree or protest the Chimpy believe they have tickets then quietly round them up.

If anything see if you can see if BUSHCO has plants there. You know the same people at different rallies.

Either way enjoy yourself as only you can and let us know all the horrific details

15. I appreciate the advice. I have already given my name and
phone number to Buttboy's office. I don't really care whether they know my name or not. I have never made a threat against Chimpy, have always obeyed all laws (well, I do have a bit of a heavy foot when driving), and if they want to pull my tickets because I gloated a bit on an Internet site they are welcome to them. I was planning on being at the protest tomorrow anyway, this was just going to give me the opportunity to be in on the inside hearing the lies first hand instead of outside with the smart people.

17. What would happen if a bunch of protesters all vomited at a rally?
I'd be fascinated to see what would happen in a tightly-packed enclosed space full of Republicans.

I wonder if it would start a "chain-reaction" within the crowd.

I'm not saying anyone should do this. I don't even know if it is legal.

But it might be a bad idea to have a big sushi dinner before attending a Bush rally if you think you might get ill.

Your right though, it would be a hell of a way to protest. Imagine having an enitre group of people throwing up 10 minutes into his speach? They would have to think your're sick. Security would come over and assist you not arrest you. I can see it now, what a message it would send. Wouldn't Bill Clinton's plan, (social security plus)that the GOP vilified, work better than another 2 trillion per 10 years added to your endless budget deficit?

Dems should demand tickets to these events. He is, after all, our erstwhile leader and we have just as much right to be there as anyone else does for this type of event. I don't care if those events are on private property or whatever excuse they use. If he's there to talk about public policy we have a RIGHT to be there. I don't know why we haven't be screaming about this type of exclusion. He wants to say he has a mandate--well let him behave like he does.

The "questioners" are plants, as well as 1/3 of the wildly supportive audience (no data to back that up, just repeating what I heard on Unfiltered). Good luck...and don't look directly into his eyes. Primates and other lower-order animals see that as a challenge of their dominance.

keep a low profile. Find a reasonable question or two to ask if you must, but honestly, I think you are a valuable resource to all the bloggers looking to counter attack his SS proposals. The protest OUTSIDE of these things and getting the real message out to people can be helped more if you don't get kicked out. We can counter attack everything he says just by having a copy of the script he's using via YOU! Think of it as psy-ops for the good of the country!

55. maybe print 100 copies of a small "fact sheet"
to share with other attendees? you'd have to be creative about where to hid those in your clothes, though.

if you dress business-like then place yourself near a rear exit, you can smile and pass them out to people as they leave, as if they're part of the program. invite 3 clean-cut looking and prefeably young co-activists to help you. make the flyer look patriotic. "OUR PRESIDENT'S PLAN!"

wonder how many could you press into people's hands before you were caught?

How can taking money out of SS help make it more financially secure?

61. Brief update. I got the tickets. Walked into Buttboy's Louisville office
Edited on Wed Mar-09-05 09:16 PM by Democrat 4 Ever
told them my name and I was given the tickets. Was not asked to sign any type of an oath. The place was crawling with people groveling asking for tickets. One grand dame ahead of me kept saying over and over again to the wonk please tell me who I can call and thank for these tickets. I will NOT forget this favor. From my brief encounter there were plenty of tickets to go around.

After picking up the tickets I went to a local Democratic Club meeting and I was blown away. They had excellent speakers - an actual actuary (try saying that three times!) from the University of Louisville who broke down all the figures on Social Security, the state treasury who broke them down further on what they are going to cost Kentuckians and a state congressman who laid it out in plain English - this is just a power grab to solidify the Republican donor base through Wall Street. (They already has the Rx drug companies in their back pockets with the Medicare Rx drug plan.

One more interesting note - last night in the late evening the repugs of the Kentucky Senate and House quietly "borrowed" "transferred" or "stole" $13.5 million that PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS have set aside for the Kentucky CAPPS prepaid program (savings program for college tuition) to help balance the budget Mongarnio (I know the spelling is wrong - too tired to look it up) asked the very valid question - if the government will take the money from the saving plans for kids college education what makes you think that they won't take the money from the individual Social Security accounts? You know, like the IOUs they are leaving for Social Security right now. And while taking the CAPPS money they also, very, very quietly voted themselves a pay raise. Now how's that for brass balls?

After the meeting I gave the tickets to the first three people at the meeting that said they would go and try to ask a question. Honestly, the protest outside during the Chimp's visit sounds much more fun and informative it will be hard to leave them and go in with the dullards! I'll let you know how the day went tomorrow night.

Fuzzy- for the "fuzzy math" used to try and sell this SS fraud

Dice- for the gambling on our future security

If we could only get a bunch made w/Bush's name/photo and some slogan like "don't gamble with Social Security" or "don't gamble with our future" on it! People could start waving these at Bush appearances!

101. I've made up some sets of dice + a bumpersticker
I'm going to see how well they go over at the MoveOn meeting tonight and my local LD Dem meeting before making more.

My kit has--
-one pair of Archie McPhee fuzzy dice
-one plastic hook with the backing that is supposed to not harm walls, for sticking on the car ceiling near the rear window
-one white lettering on black bumpersticker reading DON'T GAMBLE WITH MY SOCIAL SECURITY. (A homemade job, two to a landscape Word document, no sticky backing--just reinforced with a layer of clear backing tape)
-one homemade window sticker holder, made by cutting 8 1/2 by 11" plastic report protectors in half and sealing the long ends with clear packing tape, with 4 of those gummy wall poster sticker thingies to hold it in place on the inside of a rear window. (I've used mine for interchangeable bumpersticker messages--a car with more than one sticker to me always sends the message "Geez, look at all the bumperstickers on that car" instead of the actual text of the bumperstickers.)

78. I would ask
"If Social Security is fully funded until 2042, yet you claim that it's in crisis, under your plan what will the surplus be in 2042?"

Good luck, fellow Kentuckian. I'd find it hard to ask something that wouldn't get me thrown out and tackled by the Secret Service myself. I fear that I'd have a Tourette-like outburst as soon as I began to speak.

84. this reminds me...
"Mr. President, since your top domestic priority is a program that you expect to be 'in crisis' in 2042, doesn't that mean that there are no current domestic 'crises' in America? Health care, education, and everything else those liberals whine about are all in great shape PAST 2042, right? Nobody is actually being denied basic needs in the U.S.A *today*, is that correct?"

don't wear a provocative T-shirt, etc.

DO
but come up with a thoughful question like the one yesterday that prompted Bush to shrill"you'll get your checks!!" to wit the audience booed the the Prez.

all be it you'll have to be really subtle but come up with something simple like "what guarantees will be in place that checks drawn from the privatized account will be distributed"

what if one of the proposed funds defaults as has happened in orange county, CA and elsewhere, no fault of my own, will the government step in to protect my investment?

91. Local news article
Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 03:48 PM by Roland99
http://www.whas11.com/topstories/stories/WHAS11_TOP_BushLouisville.124c231ff.html

Bush was joined on stage by two sets of grandfathers-granddaughters who worried about the long-term viability of Social Security.

Rebecca Dean, a 22-year-old University of Louisville senior, told Bush she liked the idea of being able to divert a portion of her Social Security payroll taxes into private accounts that could be invested in stocks and bonds.

<...>

While speaking, Bush was interrupted four times by protesters, eventually acknowledging that there are differences of opinion on the Social Security issue.

During the hourlong event, Bush offered assurances that benefits would not be affected for those who are retired or close to retirement. He said the problem is there are going to be fewer workers paying in to a system paying benefits to the large "baby boom" generation.

This one doesn't

Protesters Greet President During Visit To Tout Social Security
http://www.wave3.com/Global/story.asp?S=3059408&nav=0RZEXL1q

Meanwhile, protesters in a downtown square waved signs and shouted slogans while denouncing Bush's plan as a "risky scheme" that would saddle the nation with trillions of dollars in additional debt without fixing Social Security's long term financial problems.

The protest began a couple hours before Bush stopped in Louisville as part of a cross-country blitz to his top domestic priority.

<...>

"There are different points of view on the issue," Bush finally acknowledged, after the fourth interruption. "We don't need a Band-Aid solution."

<...>

Bush was to speak later Thursday in Montgomery, Ala., before heading to Memphis, Tenn.

Great to see dissent (and vocal dissent, at that) in this red state! :D

Chimpy was very put out when he kept getting interrupted but try to pass it off as "differences of opinion." He was in full smirking mode today.

God, how I hate that man. I'm betting he doesn't finish the 60 day tour. And why isn't that dumb ass doing the "hard work" that so exhausted him last term? Staying on the road shilling a program that even many in his own party are buying into instead of back at the White House working? Aren't there more issues up in the air besides SS? Of course there are. Is this just an excuse to get away from Laura and the kids and go out and play with his followers? The man does need his idolatry, doesn't he?
