Impeachment..Nixon versus bush
Has anyone else read "Without Honor" by Jerry Zeifman?

There is some very curious information regarding the behavior of the Democratic Party during the investigative process. Basically, it boils down to a game. Dem's PROLONGED the process as long as they possibly could. Why? To make themselves look good and help the party get more seats in the Senate and House. They wanted to make sure the public got the message that the only way to fix what was wrong was to remove Republican's from office and put Dem's in their place. Nixon's resignation probably saved his party and most certainly was brought on by Republican's telling him they wanted him out so they could keep their jobs and save the party.

Hillary Rodham wrote many legal opinions during that time that are quite frankly ludicrous. One of which was a version of the "Nuremberg defense" saying that a president cannot be held responsible for the actions of his subordinates. Another legal opinion she offered up was that a president should not be allowed to have legal representation or be allowed to cross examine witnesses during impeachment proceedings via any representation. Another legal opinion she offered up was that a president could not be impeached on the grounds of "bribery" or "treason."

I realize many people here probably suspect this is going on now, but I am having a real hard time agreeing that we should wait through two years of character assassination so that we can get more seats in order to remove a CLEARLY DELUSIONAL and out of control president from office. I see some parallels to this situation that I am not very happy about. Dem's are allowing this administration to step all over themselves and dig themselves deeper and deeper in a hole to purchase free advertisement via the media (C-Span). While I understand their belief that this will help them gain seats, I am not so sure this country can survive 2 more years of REAL assassinations, war for oil, economic insanity, and the removal of all the civil rights we fought for in this country over the past 30 years.

Does anyone feel this is worth it?

1. Read Renata Adler's "In search of the real Nixon scandal" from
Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 07:08 PM by EVDebs
Atlantic Monthly Dec 1976. The real scandal was that the foreign election finance money was coming in from overseas. Much like BCCI money during the 1992 election...

That aside, remember a few weeks ago with the 'Deep Throat' story ? John Dean was having a little fun with Woodward. Read

Deep Throat : A few more thoughts about Watergate
By Bob Harris

www.metroactive.com/papers/sonoma/07.03.97/scoop-9727.html

And remember what Woodward said about the money. Well, they didn't really follow it as Renata Adler's piece points out. Why ?

Also check out Operation Mockingbird -- the CIA's media manipulation project-- ongoing since the 1940's. Wonder why the media plays up Bush's agenda ? Ignores valid criticism ?

5. I've read some of this stuff and I agree there is a much DEEPER
problem, but does that make it OK to wait for two more years ans possibly another war among many other potential thins bush could attempt while in power just so our party can gain more seats during the next election cycle?

I really don't think THIS president is one that we should use as a tool to promote the Democratic party. he is dangerous and DELUSIONAL!

Dem's did do this during the Nixon investigation and they DID NOT investigate these crimes. They did that because as long as they could keep holding Nixon and the Republicans feet to the fire, they made themselves look like saviors.

Are people really having difficulty seeing this?

I am about as Liberal as it gets, but I want this monster out of office. The "evidence" for impeachment is quite extensive and I see no reason to sit through 2 more years of hoping things will EVENTUALLY work out and Dem's will have control over the House and Senate again!

IMO, this is BAD judgment on their part. All their battles could easily come back to bite this party in the behind in 06! They have the opportunity to viewed as true patriots by removing Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and SEVERAL other people from office but THAT is clearly not enough for them.

2. Are you trying to say Dems should move now on impeachment?
Frankly there's a key difference between 74 and 05 - the Republicans control the process. An impeachment will go no where in the current House and Senate.

3. totally agree with you
did you hear the rumor that the vote in Maryland for the general election 2004 is so messed up that there is speculation the Diebold will have to refund our money, I want a solution now and I do not know why all this has been hush, hush for all this time, why was Diebold allowed to fart around with the Maryland memory cards, etc. from November to February 15th trying to duplicate the results???? Why has there been no arm twisting by the dems to get this out into the newspapers???

The democrats and republicans should put the welfare of this country ahead of their party loyalties and their lobbyists. I have said elsewhere on this site, that this is not the time for 1 term for you,
1 term for me/play the game politics, we must have accountability and credibility for our leadership.

4. Ms.Waverly, apparently you're not aware of Operation Mockingbird
the CIA's media manipulation project since the 1940's. Payola and keeping to the 'company' line keeps you in clover. Also, check out 'CNN and PsyOps' by Alexander Cockburn of counterpunch

www.counterpunch.org/cnnpsyops.html

We've been under their control for awhile now. News of this is just getting out due to the Gannon/Guckert goofup.

6. Yes, they (Republican's) are in control, but only because the Dem's are
not pushing this issue to the fullest. If Dem's WANTED to bring about impeachment proceedings they could crank up the volume considerably. They could investigate and "leak" information that would cause Republican's to be concerned enough to want to make sure bushitler doesn't take his entire party down with him. They are playing this. BIG TIME! Little itty bitty leaks, little itty bitty battles. Battles increasing in intensity, information increasingly being made more public though small media stories. Just enough to piss people off at the Republican's and see them for what they are but not enough to make the public understand THIS president is a DANGEROUS menace to the entire world. They KNOW he is and they are still going to play cat and mouse with him in order to gain seats.

I'm not sure this is the time to play the political game!
