Bankruptcy Bill Cloture Vote: Flood the switchboard of the Senate NOW!
Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 01:07 PM by ChrisPhx
Bankruptcy Bill cloture vote coming up: Flood the switchboard of the Senate NOW:

Phone number 202 224-3121 switchboard number.

Call your Senator NOW to oppose invoking cloture! Urge them to vote for continued debate, and ultimately to oppose the bill!!!

Email sent to my senator:

"Dear Senator ,
Please oppose passage of the new Bankruptcy bill, and support continued debate and discussion on the bill.
Please do not vote to invoke cloture.
Personally I had fallen into significant credit card debt. The interest rate on one was about 29%, Citibank MC, and 26% MBNA.
At these rates of interest, which they can invoke for missing or being late on only one payment or a couple, it is hard to even pay the interest on larger sums.
Further the credit card companies will not allow a person to set up automatic payments for the amount due like so many other companies, ie utilities, APS, phone service.
It is like a trap to lure one in with low transfer interest rates which are lost with one late payment.
Why do the credit card companies need help, but so many people who are in debt over their heads due to medical problems and a difficult economy are not given help?
This is a shameful attempt to burden the least able to pay, while helping credit card companies to extort usurious interest rates.
Please oppose in every way the bankruptcy bill.
Yours truly,
Chris"

7. Done -- these Senators need most to be called:
According to TalkingPointsMemo site, which is keeping track of progress on the bill:

URGENT ACTION ITEM. Senate sources are telling us that the most important Senators to contact this morning are the following:

- Maria Cantwell (D-WA)
- Patty Murray (D-WA)
- Mary Landrieu (D-LA)
- Blanche Lincoln (D-AR)
- Hillary Clinton (D-NY)
- Barbara Mikulski (D-MD)
- Max Baucus (D-MT)
- Evan Bayh (D-IN)

The Republicans promised the Democrats a fair debate on all amendments. Instead, they're trying to end the debate early so that they don't have to go on record voting against good amendments that support sick people, service members, etc. Call ...these Senators to tell him or her to vote NO on cutting off debate on the bankruptcy bill.
