U.N. Haters are in Heaven over Bolton's Nomination
I just received an e-mail from super-reactionary Move America Forward. That organization has, among other things, been behind the dump-Gray Davis movement in California, and has lately been agitating against the UN. (I put myself on their mailing list just to keep an eye on what they're up to.) RW-er and millionaire Howard Kaloogian is the head of this organization.

MAF is actually running TV and radio ads trying to make dumping the UN into a "mainstream" idea. Very, very scary.

*************************

Dear _____________

We are winning in our effort to Get the UN Out of the USA!

Some great news today, as President Bush has announced that he is
nominating a prominent UN critic - John Bolton - to serve as
U.S. Ambassador to the U.N.

Bolton has led the attack against countless international treaties
and has been critical of the UN's failure to address rogue
terrorist-supporting member states like Iraq and North Korea.

It was Bolton who penned the letter to Kofi Annan explaining to
the UN's top official that the U.S. would not take part in the
International Criminal Court. The ICC was a nightmare to those who
fight to uphold American sovereignty.

How good of a choice is Mr. Bolton?

Consider this statement from the Reuters news agency on Bolton's
nomination:

"Several officials from U.N. Security Council member
states expressed astonishment that Bush would name
someone they believed had a known antipathy towards
the United Nations."

Friends, it is because of the growing movement to stand up and speak
out about the corruption, failures, and anti-Americanism of the UN
that Mr. Bush felt like he could name someone like Bolton to stand
up against UN officials.

The attitude in this country towards the U.N. is slowly changing - and changing for the better. You should feel very good about our efforts to date. But there is much work still to be done!

Update on Anti-UN TV Ad Campaign
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

We've been making progress in funding our television ad campaign
to "Get the U.N. Out of the U.S."

One of the problems we've heard from representatives in Congress
and even state government officials is that those who are sympathetic
to our message feel like the idea of booting the UN from the U.S. is
still not "mainstream enough." That's why our television ad campaign is so important.

We've got to win over the hearts and minds of Americans.
Poll
numbers show that the people of this nation are coming our way - only 37% of Americans now approve of the job the United Nations is doing.

We're trying to launch our latest wave of new television ads that
have the tagline "Get the U.N. Out of the U.S." and as we've reported
to you, we need approximately $200,000 to fund these ads. So far to date we've raised a little more than $31,000. That's good progress from our fundraising total last time we wrote.

Think about the untold billions of dollars spent by the United Nations and their allies in disseminating propaganda to mask the failures of the UN. We need to do a lot better than $29,000 to fight back!

The time for us to step up our efforts is NOW - especially with a
new nomination for U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. up for confirmation
by the U.S. Senate.

3. That's so scary. The UN is the only thing the world has got. It needs
strengthening at any cost.

4. I'm sure that's part of Bushco's desire to get the UN
out of the US and the US out of the UN. Some of the RW toadie "journalists" compared Bush to Woodrow Wilson. What a load of crap! Wilson created the UN while Bush seeks to dismantle it and sell it for parts.

5. If you think that's bad - check this out
Right on President Bush!!! Hopefully this bunch of pussies packs up and moves to pansyland France, Canada, or Feigland! Harry Truman--a real Democrat and like Bush, one who didn't take any crap from anybody also-- would be proud! Todays wishy-washy liberal-wing of the Democratic Party should be called the Socialist Party or Communist Party because their government-uber-alles tax-and-spend policies are the same as the former USSR's, North Korea's, and Cuba's. Only we conservatives and Republicans stand in their way.

That little gem was in response to this subject on a liberal blog:

Now Bush has delivered what would seem to be the final nail on the coffin of U.S.-U.N. relations by naming Bolton as our new "ambassador." Bolton -- both a leading neo-conservative and a Christian activist -- once said that "if the U.N. Secretary Building in New York lost 10 stories, it wouldn't make a bit of difference." Hopefully he was referring to a planned demolition and not the Sept. 2001 variety.

7. OMG, what an ignorant comment
But at least that comment was balanced out by the next commenter on the site:

"Just when I thought Bush couldn't top himself with bad choices in the second term (keeping Rummy, promoting Condi the fellow liar, also Gonzales the torture maven, returning the same bad judicial nominations, etc.), he really has amazed me and the world with his chutzpah and poor judgement--now even Chief Justice Thomas will like seem more reasonable appointment than before."

8. PNAC lovers are also in heaven
if there is a heaven for such folk. Bolton is the former Director of the PNAC and one of its principal architects. It's my understanding that he's even to the right of Netanyahu, if that's possible, on the subject of a Palestinian State.
