Are the Democrats learning how to be an "'opposition" Party ??
After all, the purpose of an opposition Party is to oppose. Republicans understand that very well. They opposed Clinton's tax hike in 1993 - even though they knew something had to be done about the huge deficits of Bush I and Reagan. They argued it would destroy our economy.

They have opposed every minimum wage that has ever been proposed. They opposed Social Security when it was created in the 30's. They opposed the creation of Medicare. They opposed the war in Kosovo. They were not shy or afraid of being called "unpatriotic". Whatever the Democrats were for, they were against.

Maybe the Democrats could learn something from the Republicans. They don't have to oppose them on the "wrongness" of their policies, but because the opposition Party is supposed to oppose. What other function woud they have??

1. Over the past 70+ years there have also been many bipartisan bills.
The Reps picked and chose their spots. They didn't knee jerk oppose everything the Democrats did. They didn't want the label "obstructionist" to be applied to them.

The Democrats need to learn to pick and choose where to obstruct and where to cooperate. If we knee jerk oppose everything, then we will lose even more as the obstructionist label hits home.

All well and good in fantasyland. But I can't remember the last time there even was a republican proposal worthy of serious consideration, let alone "compromise."

3. I was trying to think of something also.....
Mostly it is Democrats "compromising" with Republicans. Although there have been a few moderate Repubs that have voted with Democrats on some issues.

4. We can only hope, but I’m not counting on it.
First of all, that's a great point. Thanks for bringing it up that way. So, here are my thoughts on the Dems as an opposition party.

Too many are still suckered by the Repuke “bait and switch” notion of bipartisanship. It’s like Charlie Brown and Lucy’s football. The Repukes will NEVER give anything. It they do, they’ve attached a hidden rider that makes it further impossible to address issues for the people that both parties presume to represent.

We need voting standards across the country guaranteed in our Constitution. There should be a level playing field here or this is just the phony democracy it has been ever since the MSM bailed on their responsibilities. It’s not like the “opposition” party is getting any breaks there when they get suckered by the bipartisan football.

I say, “Fuck it.” Either they oppose these bastards or they are enablers. I hope we have some strong candidates in 2006 because that’s the standard that I will be using.

Also, turn off your MSM media unless you need a weather report. These days, that’s their most reliable and verifiable area of expertise. Sad, but true.
