12. I am not convinced Kerry lost in Ohio. Are you? Time to demand a media
recount of the vote in Ohio and impound the machines. If Bush had lost Ohio, the Rethugs would leave no stone unturned and the media would echo their every protest.

Christopher Hitchens has major questions abaout how the election was conducted and counted in Ohio, yet the media remains deafeningly silent.

Read Hitchens' article, Ohio's Odd Numbers here: http://www.makethemaccountable.com/articles/Ohio_s_Odd_Numbers.htm

Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 12:20 PM by flpoljunkie
Let alone 2006. If we do not fix our voting systems to ensure our votes will be counted accurately, we might as well throw up our hands and surrender to the Rethugs.

Are there not lawsuits still going on in Ohio? I believe there is. Anyone out there have the skinny on their current status?

the answer is no---we need a paper trail but unless some of our democratic leaders keeps this in front of the people every day through use of the halls of congress how are we as mere mortals to get organized----about decided we will have to hit the streets or forever hold our peace-----REPUBLICAN know how to use power---and what makes it all so sickening, we gave it to them

If Kerry really WAS your man, you'd be all over the black box voting issue, on behalf of ALL of us who voted for Kerry.

Why???? Why don't the boneheads in congress "get it"???

WE DON'T HAVE HONEST ELECTIONS IN THIS COUNTRY ANY LONGER!!!!

Until that problem is corrected, bush (or his chosen successor)is "our" man, no matter WAHT we might think we want!

24. Kennedy probably doesn't realize he just did Hillary a favor
With all due respect, getting an endorsement from Ted Kennedy doesn't exactly smooth the path to the White House. Ted Kennedy is beloved by many Democrats, but for much of the electorate (including many whose votes we need in the general election), he represents a brand of liberalism that has been thoroughly discredited. The Republicans would love nothing more than to portray Hillary Clinton as the ideological soulmate of Teddy Kennedy. Thanks Teddy for making it clear that she isn't.

Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 05:19 PM by flpoljunkie
If I'm not mistaken, Al is smitten with Hillary's '08 prospects.

Don't those in the media who are salivating for HRC as the Democratic nominee, realize the base is not all that enamored of her? Of course, they do not care.

Touting her thrills the Republican base. Tweety, who has never had a kind word for Clinton, is already salivating at the prospect a Rice/Clinton race in '08.

27. Speak for yourself, not the "base"
Sorry, but most of the people you consider the base haven't liked any of the Democratic Party's nominees in at least 30 years. Yet somehow, miraculously, all these candidates just somehow manage to get the party's nomination WITHOUT the support of your precious base.

And if speaking up for the working man, labor rights, the environment, health care rights, women's rights, and civil rights, including gay rights, is what you called "liberal" and discredited, count me in.

Is this not what the Democratic party ought to stand for and stand up for?

44. Why is that any of your business?
If your'e really all that curious, you can do an advanced search on my name as I discuss it in numerous threads. Not that it mattered, as the nomination was already determined by the time I got to vote.

The important thing is that I actively supported the Kerry campaign with my time and money, and that's the first time that I've actively supported a presidential nominee apart from simply voting.

I really, really, wanted Kerry to beat Bush, and I was not happy that he failed to do it. I'm very sorry if you're bothered by my feeling that way.

41. Well, if he did win, all I can say is he's doing a lousy
job as President.

Really, I don't regard it as a win if the person doesn't end up actually assuming the office he was running for. Heck, we can rack up these sorts of wins for the next hundred years and never see a Dem in the White House.

And yes, I am concerned about Repuke use of fraud. I just wish that Kerry had been more concerned. This was definitely an issue that he needed to take into consideration if he was planning on seriously trying to get elected president.

49. Crunchy Frog, I believe there is a federal lawsuit still going on in Ohio
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 08:44 AM by flpoljunkie
which involves the Kerry campaign.

Here is what I have found from http://www.votecobb.org/press/2005/mar/pr2005-03-02.php

Attorneys for Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb and Libertarian Party presidential candidate Michael Badnarik, who jointly requested the Ohio recount, have already filed their response to the Judge's question. Kerry and Edwards, through their Ohio attorney, filed a one sentence statement with the Judge supporting the Cobb and Badnarik position. Kerry's lawyer also filed a short, two page summary charting inconsistencies observed by Democratic Party witnesses to the recount.

The matter is pending in the Eastern Division of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, before Judge Sargus.

53. That's nice, I'm glad to hear about it
but it really doesn't address my concern, and it doesn't get Bush out of the White House.

What I really wish is that there had been some aggressive persuit of the issue while the Dems still held a majority in the Senate, after the 2000 theft. With the Repubs in complete control, it's hard to see what can be done to seriously address the issue. What you've described seems to me to be both too little and too late.

48. Not John Kerry, but Bob Kerrey
Also, I don't know if those charges were true. There was a NYT magazine article about 3 years ago that made charges that Kerrey's men killed some non-combatants but if I remember right it was at night, there was confusion and reason to think they shot in fear and confusion. There was no resemblance to LT Calley who ordered unarmed woman and children killed in broad daylight.
