Bush pitches Social Security to vulnerable GOP districts
WESTFIELD, New Jersey (AP) -- President Bush kept pitching his Social Security overhaul Friday, undaunted by Democratic opposition, frayed Republican support and less than enthusiastic backing from the public.

"I'm going to keep telling people we've got a problem until it sinks in, because we've got one," Bush said, underscoring estimates that say Social Security will begin paying out more than it collects in taxes as early as 2018.

"Keep telling people we have a problem till it sinks in"?

Hey, it's worked for totalitarian regimes before!

2. SS does have some major issues...
What he's failing to mention is the details of his plan. He's only pitching the need for SS reform, not the truth about his plan specifically. He wouldn't get any support for the bill if people could see whats in it, and he knows it.

3. Bush is already playing defense
He has given up on going after "vulnerable" Democrats and is simply trying to pull his party together on this issue. His plan is so going to go down.

6. Well if the Bush gov't would stop spending our money like
its going out of style, we MIGHT just be able to pay a few of our bills. Unfortunatly, Bush has made spending money a high art. Nothing new in ripping off the tax payers. Bush has just made it easier, quicker, much less obvious to taxpayers who give a shit and justified it all with the ideology of 'freedom'.

We pay taxes for good raods and road safety. Do we get it? No, we get more road taxes.

We pay taxes for good schools. Do we get it? No, we get mandates that enhance school testing and not much else.

We pay taxes for responsible government management. Do we get it? No, we give no-bid contracts to companies that court politicians.

We pay taxes for the sustainment of natural resources, parks and recreation. Do we sustain these? No, we get politicians that push corporate mining, lumber and oil interests.

So is it really that surprising that we Americans pay money for Social Security and get the shaft instead? No.
