Senator vs. Governor for 08'?
Should we be examining the pros and cons of searching out one over the other?

I myself am just hearing Senators being brought up, how about some Democratic Governors? How about introducing some of the Democratic Governors that any of you might be familiar with. Why wait to define what type of candidate would be most suited to represent the Democratic Party and could win?

So, if we could start gathering the pertinent information on the names eligible and/or likely from Washington as well as from the Governors...wouldn't it be worthwhile?

3. A governor would be better
the problem with that is - name a democratic governor that seems like a good presidential candidate. You can't. I've heard Mark Warner, but the problem with that is, I've never heard of him except on this site.

4. Governor Blagoevich of Illinois.
Odds-on favorite for a 2nd term in the only 'blue' state between the Appalachians and the Rockies.

5. Any United States Senator NOT named Barbara Boxer...
...who wants to run for president can take a flying fuck at the wall for the travesty that took place January 6th, 2005.

...By my count that is 99 ineligible Senators due to their being accessories-after-the-fact in felonious theft of an American election.

6. There's mention of Ed Rendell, Bill Richardson,
Phil Bredeson.

I think you ask a good question but I will wind up focusing on what sort of human being to support more than his or her office.

When Al Gore or John Kerry are speaking, I don't hear "senators" exactly, but statesmen. Same with John Kennedy's speeches on the campaign trail.

Evan Bayh of Indiana has been both a governor and a senator.

We've got a really mixed field of candidate experiences to choose from.

10. O.k. what can we learn about Phil Bredeson, Ed Rendell, Billl Richardson,
Edited on Thu Mar-03-05 06:15 PM by cidliz2004
Rod Blagoveich (?)? Sorry, didn't mean to skip Baye and Warner.

Finding the right type of candidate and seriously discussing the possibilites helps to take away the power of the Party to shove their "chosen" down our throats. As Party Memebers wanting to win, WE NEED to make the choices and WE NEED to know WHO the real possibilities are and where we should be looking.

As far as the statesman thing, and John F. Kennedy, well that was over 40+ years ago, we could only be so lucky as to have somebody like that to come around again. The last ELECTED that actually served in the office were Governors - from almost nowhere in the party. Those were our two last sucess stories. Maybe somebody that is "owned" by Washington, is too beholding to Washington??? What do you all think?

13. I'm not against any governor just because he or she's a governor.
But I like candidates who have written legislation in foreign policy and on domestic issues.

If I had lived in New York in 2000, and Giuliai had survived in that race against Hillary Clinton, I would have wondered why the 2 major parties nominated people who had never written a syllable of legislation.

I'd vote for a good candidate, whether governor or senator, or something else.

7. Napolitano (AZ) may be weighing a Senatorial bid.
AZ likes Dem guvs, so even if she runs for Senate, we may pick up a strong Dem governor. AG Terry Goddard (a fairly liberal Dem) is a good bet for a Gov bid if Janet has DC thoughts.

If she decides to run for Governor again, she's probably a shoo-in. She's very popular even in the red areas.

8. The last senator to run and win was JFK in 1960
Let's do what the repubs did 8 years before Kennedy and run an army general.

14. Sign up to to be on the wesPAC mailing list for one thing
That's the Political Action Committee that Clark started after he withdrew from the 2004 race. The sight is completely outdated at the moment but the revamped site is undergoing BETA testing right now and will be launched soon. Since this is an official Clark related sight he will not use it to talk about a Presidential run since he is not now an official candidate. Here is a thread in the DU Clark Supporters Group that discusses the BETA testing for wesPAC:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=235&topic_id=5670&mesg_id=5670

Here is the old wesPAC Site: http://www.wespac2004.com/#home

And here is the direct link to the DU Clark Supporters Group front page:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=235

Only Democratic Underground Donors can post in DU groups, but anyone can read them. And it only costs $10 a year, maybe even less to become a donor. The link to donate to DU is at the top of virtually any page. The Clark Support Group is a good place to go for connecting with other grass roots Clark supporters, and for staying informed about developments concerning Clark.

There is also a low key effort underway to circulate a Draft Clark 2008 Petition. Here is that link:

9. It wouldn't matter if it was a Sen. or a Gov. as long as the GOP controls
most of the media and the voting machines.

First things first, and exposing the GOP control over our only chances for democracy is paramount or no Democrat anything will ever win the WH.
