Refugees from the conservative camp
How many people know either former Repubs who are now on the side of democracy or who hate the troglodyte with all their hearts, but remain loyal to the Repub party?

How truly conservative are they? Do they just hate the idiot in chief, or the way the Repub party is heading?

Are they religious? And if they are, are they fundies or creationists, or would you consider them moderate in their religious beliefs? Or are they religious in a sense where religion and politics don't mix?

Are any of them radical right winged who have seen the light since the election, 2004? Are they long time Repubs who were Repubs when it was sane to be a Repub?

I'm trying to fathom the mind that still believes the troglodyte is good for our country. I'm trying to understand why anyone intelligent enough to think clearly for themselves could see a decision to elect GWB as good for anyone. We all know people who are with him because he represents the hordes of the rich, greedy and those whose self-interests command their decision making--these are not stupid people, just those who put their own personal welfare over everyone else's. We know that those on the radical religious right support him because he represents the apocalypse and their chance to leave this world without paying for their sins, and those who believe that Christianity is justification enough to kill anyone who isn't of their ilk. We also know that for some ungodly reason (pun intended) there are some people who voted for him because somehow, in all the lies that he has spouted, that he is the only one who can save them from another event like 9/11. We also know that another reason some voted for him is simply because they hate everything they perceive to be liberal, even though 95% of them don't even know what IS liberal, and what isn't.

So I'm looking for answers, I guess. Who are the people who have been stolid Repubs from the day they started voting to recently, but who realize that the "messiah" is really the anti-Christ, and that the Repub party would have done ANYTHING to win, including lie, cheat and steal? Who are those conservatives who were able to escape from the powermongering of Karl Rove, GWB, Dick Cheney and all the others who have made Hitler's propaganda ministers look like alter boys?

What do these people hate most about GWB and his regime? What do they think of those who support him even though his lying is getting more transparent all the time? What do they think of undying devotion to policies which infringe on fascism? How many of the lies do they believe hold sway over these more gullible people?

I know one guy who can't, even in the "gotcha" moments of the reign of GWB I, condemn him for anything. How can an intelligent person, short of being rigorously insane, believe any of the shit of the past four years?

I'd love to hear anecdotes, and I have to wonder: where is our country going to be in 2008? Will sanity and justice return? Or will the vise of oppression be tightened even further on all of us?

1. There is a rising tide
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 06:20 PM by LdyGuique
of conservative Republicans who are voicing opposition to some policies of Bush and the Neocons -- http://www.lewrockwell.com/columnists.html">Lew Rockwell is a Libertarian site with a huge range of articles from people such as Paul Craig Roberts, and even, Pat Buchanan. I'm seeing more public op eds from people such as George Will and James Brody.

However, these people are not becoming non-conservatives, but simply opposed to more and more of the fascist tendencies of the neocons in control.

2. I know a girl who calls herself Republican
When asked what her political platform was, she replied "exactly what Kerry's is". Yes, she voted for John Kerry.

She won't stop calling herself a Republican, though.

8. I guess the girl you know Heaven and Earth
probably doesn't want to leave her party and the ideals even though she said everything she is for is along the lines of Kerry. Wouldn't that make her a democrat though? Tis a strange thing.

3. better red than dead, now turning blue
My neighbors who are big dittoheads in the Rush camp have been turned off by 2 things,
the big inauguration wing-ding, I mentioned that our democratic city council rep has a staffer looking for a house in our neighborhood, my neigbor said that the Republicans would never consider living with the "common people." and secondly when I brought up Gannon-Guckert, they said well Clinton did it, and I simply said that 2 wrongs don't make a right, and I expect higher standards from a president who is a world leader and they AGREED with me, I almost fell into a snowbank while I was shoveling over that one.

7. I know that but Rush has painted him as the devil
You know Rush has him up there on the most evil of evil list, I'm sure that when they said well Clinton did it, they were referring to Monica, not the war, not the budget, not the stolen election not even ignoring 52 memos before 911, let's count the real stuff!

5. I was sitting in an airport bar...
a couple weeks ago, and I struck up a conversation with the guy sitting next to me. Somehow, as it does in bars, the topic of politics came up. "I'm a conservative Republican", he says. "Well," I said with a smile, "I'm on the opposite side of the fence." He said something and I rolled my eyes. "I know Bush is an idiot," he said, "but I wanted to show OBL and the terrorists that I support our President." "You know," I told him "despite what you may have heard, John Kerry is not really French."
Crazy, aren't they?

9. Just me thinking on the French thing
But Bush and Kerry are considered cousin's so wouldn't that make Bush French too? Or not?
