White House Correspondents Want No Role in Credentialing

The White House Correspondents Association announced Monday that it would not seek changes to the White House press-credentialing process, despite complaints from several members that controversial former reporter James Guckert had been able to gain the same access as any other reporter for two years.

"The board felt like none of us were happy about Gannon being in the briefing room, but we all view it as the price we pay for a system that favors inclusion over keeping someone out," Hutcheson told E&P. "While not perfect, is geared toward letting people in."

-snip-

"The bottom line is that none of us are comfortable with Jeff Gannon posing as a journalist," Hutcheson stated. "But none of us are comfortable with changing the system to keep him out."

1. I totally need to get my White House Press Pass, in that case.
I can set up a blog that looks vaguely like a news site. Honest!

3. Isn't DU a news site?
You and others are helping all of us here on DU get the info. On Judy W's CNN Blog spot they RARELY mention a liberal site. They go on and on about numerous Repub sites and what they are talking about (which is usually garbage). Never this site or any of those like Truth Out, etc. Must not break from the "media chant" that, all is well with Bush's leadership. Or is it more of "liberal?" they are stuck in the past, move on, no news.

2. it's outrageous
...an admission that Washington journalists no longer are willing to stand between the people and tyranny; their sacred role. And so I'm wondering if they should still enjoy the protections we people grant them.
