Republicans retreat on Social Security....
temporarily. They are pulling Bush's nuts out of the fire and covering their own asses faster than you can say "stock market rip-off." However, too many people have "invested" too much money on this issue to give up so easily. They are simply waiting for the appropriate time to strike and kill "your" Social Security. But they will probably not wait until 2006...

===================================================================

<snip>
The Senate's top Republican said yesterday that President Bush's bid to restructure Social Security may have to wait until next year and might not involve the individual accounts the White House has been pushing hard.

<snip>
"In terms of whether it will be a week, a month, six months or a year, as to when we bring something to the floor, it's just too early," Frist said.

<snip>
That a politician as closely allied to the White House as Frist would even raise the possibility of putting off the proposal until next year -- possibly dooming it -- was an unexpected blow to the administration.

<snip>
House leaders have said they want the Senate to go first in passing Social Security legislation. That is because they are pessimistic about picking up Democratic support, and they do not want to put GOP members in the position of passing a controversial bill that then dies in the Senate, leaving a ripe issue for Democrats in 2006.

1. Good news, surely
But we can never afford to be lax in watching these scum like hawks on this and every other issue. Let's keep the pressure on so they can NEVER pass this excremental legislation, no matter what form it takes.

3. A Repub Rep from FL on C-Span this morning was asked (by the
moderator, no less) about the meeting she had with Bush in the WH about SS...then asked her what his reponse was about the feedback he received. She stuttered a little and said something like - he said everything would be all right.

Notice how those Repubs who are receivng the neg feedback from constituents are kinda quiet and those who are charged with leading the charge are getting louder and shriller - Frist Hastert DeLay and the chairmans.
