Senator Corzine, and now Senator Durbin, are speaking on this bill and the urgent need for its passage at this very moment on the Senate floor.

I am deeply concerned that we are currently permitting another genocide to take place today in Sudan. I call on you to pass the Senate bipartisan bill and to urge President Bush to lead the nation and the international community in taking strong and decisive action to stop the violence, provide sufficient humanitarian aid for those in camps, hold the perpetrators accountable, and establish conditions for the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of survivors to their homes.

In Bush's inaugural address he said, "America's influence is not unlimited, but fortunately for the oppressed, America's influence is considerable, and we will use it confidently in freedom's cause... All who live in tyranny and hopelessness can know: the United States will not ignore your oppression, or excuse your oppressors."

We are counting on you, the Congress, to urge President to give meaning to these words.
