Dream Team -- If only the candidates would set their egos aside
Edited on Mon Dec-22-03 12:12 AM by Armstead
I look at the field of Democratic candidates and think that if somehow they could set all of their egos aside, they could create a really cool Dream Team if they joined forces.

Okay it'll never happen but might as well speculate "If only..."

Here is what I personally like to see.The players could be shuffled if you are a supporter of some otehr candidate, feel free to do your own shuffling as appropriate.

Dean Pres
Edwards VP

Kerry Sec. of State.
Clark Sec. of Defense
Leiberman Dept, of Homeland Security
Gephardt Sec. of Labor

Dennis the K. -- Special advisor on Non-Violent Conflict Resolution (equal in stature to national Security Advisor)

Carol Mosley Braun -- Health and Human Services

Al Sharpton -- He'd be great as Press Secretary, but might scare off too many voters. Not sure how to use his talents.

1. Graham will be Dean's VP I believe
But Edwards would be a great Attorney General. I'm beginning to think that Clark is too much of an egomaniac to be the head of anything. Anyone that thinks their too good for VP when they aren't even qualified for the spot in the first place is a bad sign.

Graham as VP cold be good, but I think his health might be an issue.

9. Then what about Clark/Dean? Dean's not too good to be VP, is he?
Using your terminology, that is.

Of course not. But the VP job is really a non-job. Clark is not a #2 kinda guy. Neither is Dean. Nothing wrong with that.

Clark has said, by the way, that he WOULD consider being a VP for one person: Hillary Clinton. So he apparently doesn't think he's above the job.

Dean, on the other hand, has never intimated that he would be ANYONE'S VP, even Gore's. Does that mean his ego is too big for politics? Of course not. Silly suggestion.

5. Al Sharpton for Homeland Security?

7. Dream team has to have a winner at the top
Which means that the Dream Team has to have Edwards at the top of the ticket. I would add Clark there but I know what Rove's ads would look like: they would just air Clark's compliments about Bush and his team. (Same ad for Lieberman, in the Rose Garden at the introduction of the IWR.) I remember Edwards at the State of the Union, when the camera went to him when Bush was talking about tort reform. He had fire in his eyes. Do you notice he never mentions Bush's name in a positive context? If he is talking about Iraq, he says the troops. No one else is as disciplined yet as positive as Edwards.

Now, would Dean take less than the top spot?

I don't think AFSCME or SEUI would be too happy with Gephardt at Labor, and I don't think he is too happy with them.

11. Okay.
President: Kucinich
Vice President: Edwards
Secretary of State: Kerry
Dept of Defense: Clark
Dept. of Labor: Gephardt
Surgeon General: Dean
Press Secretary: Sharpton

Governor of California: CMB; I know she would do a good job somewhere in the cabinet, but, being a Californian, I'd rather have her take Ahnold's spot.

I'm not sure where to put Lieberman.

12. And then.....
....it'd end up yanking three current senators and three representatives from Congress.

This Dream Team would end up battling the opposition in Congress as a result.
