Poll question: Who's Worse: bu$h or Hitler?
This is a tough one for me. I can't even take part in my own poll, because it's a tough choice. Maybe after seeing some of your responses, I'll get a clearer picture.

1. I don't see how there's much of a choice here....
No matter how bad you think Bush is, Hitler is definately worse.

2. Bush doesn't have the imagination or ambition of Hitler
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 01:53 PM by jpgray
Bush is essentially a figurehead--his wrongheaded "ideas" come from corporations and political power brokers. So I'd say Hitler was worse.

10. I doubt it.

After being appointed Chancellor by Hindenburg, Hitler got things rolling toward fascism and genocide much more quickly than Bush has. Their steps are very similar, though--media consolidation, use of morality and patriotism for propaganda, blame of shadowy "outsider" figures for domestic problems, intimidation of those who dissent, &c. I don't think Bush has enough time or ability to catch up, frankly.

Plus the economic and political situation in Germany was totally different than the US's today.

6. Oh Please, Please stop with all the comparisions to Hitler!
It makes DUers look like the moonbats that we are accused of being by the right! Yes, Bush got this country into an illegal war and yes, that is horrible - but he hasn't *systematically* tried to destroy an entire race.

I hate that these kinds of posts put me in a position to even remotely defend a man that I consider vile, but I find these comparisions hurtful to the democratic cause.

IMHO.

I agree that the comaprison in regards to Hitler's attempts to destroy an entire race does not apply to bu$h, at least not yet. But there are parallels and connections in my opinion:

Let's start with Prescott bu$h, building the family fortune thanks to help from the nazi's in WWII . . . No this isn't GWB, but I believe that Prescott's (gramps to GWB) belief system has been passed on to bu$h.

The intolerance of any kind of dissent, a good comparison IMO

The use of propaganda, another valid comparison IMO. It exists in many forms these days, and it did in WWII Germany

Hitler was a racist, and I believe bu$h is one too

The use of the military to prop up a regime . . .

Military industrial complex . . . . .

I don't think either bu$h or Hitler wanted a system of checks and balances, or a representative form of government. They wanted total control.

Hitler was a mass murderer, bu$h is well on his way

etc., etc.

Just my opinions. I don't intend to offend anyone, and if I have I am sorry for that. Certainly there are differencesd between bu$h and Hitler, but there are similarities as well.

books as equal to or more evil than Hitler and I don't think these types of posts serve any purpose. Again, IMHO - but, it seems other share it as well. However, I also agree that our current government answers "yes" to too many things on this checklist:

on edit: thanks for the flamebait post.

7. I voted for Bush because he is still alive and is still doing damage.
Hitler is dead.
Bush is alive, and we do not yet know the limit to what Bush can do.

11. The fact that you posted this poll which will no doubt be picked up..
by MSM to once again point out what a bunch of leftwing loonies reside at DU, forces me to vote for hitler. This is not helpful.

12. uh - oh
They'll point to your post and say "even though the poll results show that they think Hitler's worse, they only voted that way because they thought it would get picked up in the media."

Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 02:12 PM by reichstag911
...after 4 years in power than Hitler did. Who knows what he has planned for this term (and beyond)? Will we have a "national emergency" when 2008 comes around whereby we'll have to put off those pesky elections? Or will the repugs lie-cheat-steal their way to a supermajority sufficient to amend the Constitution to eliminate the two-presidential-terms-limit provision of the 22nd Amendment? Who knows???

24. One more time . . .
Bush-Hitler comparisons are crap.

Hitler set a standard for evil that will probably remain unsurpassed. If anyone is waiting for Bush or anybody else to be that bad before feeling action needs to be taken against him, then we've got an awful long wait.

It isn't a matter of whether Bush is as bad or worse than some other historical figure. It isn't a matter whether if he isn't stopped now now he will go that far. It is question of whether he has gone too far already.

I say the answer to that is Yes. That being the case, we don't need to even think about how he compares to Hitler, Caligula, Attila the Hun or any other historical monster.

25. Just one fucking question:
What the hell does this mean, what does it have to do with anything, what intellectual, rhetorical or practical purpose does it serve... And why the fuck does it matter?

OK, that was more than one question...
