here's the problem: tried to chat with RW religious group....
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 05:33 PM by Lerkfish
I happened upon a christian group. Out of curiousity, I asked if they were all RW christians, or a mix of left and RW. They acted like they didn't understand the question. So I reworded: ok, did y'all vote for Bush or Kerry?
them:Bush! If I could have voted more than once for him I would have (interesting remark for a christian)
me: But he doesn't stand for christian ideals
them: are you insane? He's our man in the white house.
me: ok....so you're saying you approve of torturing detainees? Do you think Jesus would approve of torture?
them: What are you talking about? Nobody was ever tortured!
me: oh, yeah, Bush approved of torture based on the Gonzales memo.
them: You don't know what you're talking about! Gonzales never wrote that memo.
me: um, yeah he did.
them:you must mean gonzales at my high school, cause the AG never approved of torture.
me: at any rate, you must have voted for him because he agreed with your hatred of gays, then.
them: We hate the sin, not the sinner
me: Yeha, right. Then how do you feel about Gannon?
them: Its time you should leave now.
me: But I'm christian
them: no, you're not if you didn't vote for Bush and come here trashing his good name like this.
Me: are you simply afraid of the truth?

about here I got banned.

Just wanted to relate how RW fundamentalists are soooo far removed from reality you can't discuss anything wth them.

7. One fully armed person will not win against a number of half armed people.
Sadly. We may be smarter, but if there are more of them, especially if they have some authority, you cannot win. You can weaken them and that is the reason to fight.

2. Wow. Talk about people living in a different reality. How can someone
cover their eyes and ears that hard to not know anyhthing that is going on in Washington.

5. I know, I was amazed at the level of denial.
For them to DENY torture took place, even after BushCo admits it happened...is bizarre.

17. Those Wingnuts are Closer to Monkeys than They'd Like
Yeah! As in the three monkeys that covered their eyes, ears and mouths. See no evil. Hear no evil. And speak no evil. :)

3. A valiant effort
Good practice for such debates is to argue with your coffee table. Although the coffee table usually comes up with more logical responses.

4. That first comment you listed
"Bush! If I could have voted more than once for him I would have (interesting remark for a christian)"

This must be a common theme among Bush fundies?

My neighbors are well off Repug fundies. One day their little girls were over my house and Bush's name came up. The older one said, 'My mommy told me if she could vote for Bush four times, she would". I thought that was an odd christian principle?

10. even odder, my homophobic RW coworker once said:
You guys hate bush!

I agreed.

He then said: I think he's the greatest president we've ever had!. If I could marry him I would.

I just looked at him. That was a bizarre thing for a guy to say who has made it clear he hates gays.

I just dont' think there's enough therapy in the world for these folk.

6. You fought valiantly but...
I'm sorry, I just can't deal with these people. They are so non-reality based. And it obviously isn't a problem for them, at least at the present time (maybe sometime they'll awaken).

8. Your subject line says it all
That IS PRECISELY the problem. You chatted with that bunch. They'll do nasty things to you. You are better off avoiding them. Plenty of religious discussions around HERE get heated, but not violent. The RW'ers are violent. Please be safe and chat in the religious forums here instead.

9. There is no such thing as a logical argument with these types...
How do you pose a logical argument with people who deny any fact that is in contradiction to their position. I've had more lucid conversions with people in the throes of a schizophrenic episode.

14. to be honest, I wasn't trying to convert necessarily, just plumbing the
depths of their reasoning. turns out their reasoning was so shallow no plumbing was necessary.

I've been curious, as a left christian, under what logic they feel its ok to vote for a lying torturing intolerant war mongerer.
I cannot understand how you can supposedly embrace Christ, AND Bush.
And for these guys, its like Bush has replaced Christ in their hearts.

I am truly starting to think Bush is the antichrist.

22. I feel the same way...
I've stopped attending my church because the minister likes to quote drudge, most of the people are die-hard republicans, I feel like I am the only one in the room that thinks beyond what they are told, and the stickers on all the suv's.

13. Doesn't sound very Christian.
Telling you you are not Christian is bad. But also doing it because they say you were badmouthing Bush is beyond anything. You remember my diatribe last sunday night about how these people have done nothing but damage to the country and the people in it.

20. Having lived a considerable number of years observing people carefully,
I have developed a theory that there is a gene which allows for the mind to utilize logic. As science is breaking down the codes of DNA, genes and the physical apparatus which allows the brain to function, it is only a matter of time before my theory is proved.

And it will be noticed that a certain part of the population simply does not have the logic gene.
