Matt Lauer on Gannongate: "Such a bizarre yet fascinating story"
Campbell Brown tore Jeff Gannon a new one on The Today Show just now.

She even asked him if he was soliciting himself for sex on the internet, and he was evasive (of course).

Here are a couple of Gannon's best lines (these aren't necessarily verbatim quotes):

"If The White House were going to hire a plant, don't you think they would have chosen someone better than me?"

"I asked for access and I got it. It makes you wonder about the other kinds of people who get access."

"My lawyer told me not to go into specifics, but yes, the truth is out there. But there is also a lot of disinformation out there."

2. Brown was throwing him softballs. She didn't ask how he knew
about shock and awe 4 hours before the fact. She didn't bring up the Wilson interview. She didn't ask about his attending White House Christmas parties either.

She also didn't rebut him on that thing about misinformation about his having gay escort sites.

It was something though, and Matt Lauer did say that Dems wanted an investigation into this.

Bizarre Yes, Fascinating NO.
More like sickening, to think they pulled this shit off long enough to keep bu$h from getting tough questions when they should have been asked is just disgusting.
They went after Clinton on much less than this and the media whores call this FASCINATING?

4. Guckert has a valid point that they COULD have found a ringer with
a better background, UNLESS it was someone having sex with him who chose him based on that.

If he has a client at the White Hosue or GOPUSA, then his story makes more sense.

17. My guess is they chose Gannon because he was expendable
Or perhaps because he had the dirt (or the santorum) on someone inside The White House.

Who knows who he had in his "little black book" when he asked for his credentials?

On the other hand, maybe they knew they could use him as long as they wished, and when they tired of him, the freepers "who have a propensity to eat their own" would dispose of him without Rove having to do the dirty work himself.

"Sorry, Bulldog. I tried to help you, but it was your own people that pulled the plug, it wasn't me. So, about those pictures of me with that twink in DuPont Circle..."

21. I've been thinking much the same. Guckert's hardly the brightest bulb
in the set, but I don't think he's paying much attantion to Rove and the Noise Machine, either.

I suspect he's doing these appearances to whore (sorry) himself, and he doesn't know what he's really doing.

It's a theory worth pursuing, because if there's any truth to it, Guckert could be easily persuaded to spill the beans.

but also possible that their really is a lusty love connection. Humans can do some stupid crap for "love". If this administration left this back door open then it's also possible that we might get all the information that we need. Historically it wouldn't be the first or last time a human being put their heart before their head.

And all we need is for one GOOD reporter to ask the right questions.

8. Thanks Cambell...Something IS better than nothing! But,
I have faith that pretty soon we'll have most everything (well I won't hold my breath.) on the table. But enough will get out there to do damage to the White House and get the word out to the public that bush* has been manipulating the Corporate media and spreading propaganda. Maybe enough Rethugs will wisen up to the fact that they have been duped and this unelected president is a fraud. They should be sickened by his lies. :puke: Then we'll find out if they really have all those so called values...or if they are all hypocrites.

22. If it wasn't for the sex (especially gay sex) nobody would pay attention
The Bush regime has capitalized on penis-obsessed Puritanism to put him into office. It's about time his own tactics turned around to (bite) him in the ass.

Bush: Now, I'd love to answer your questions about the environment, jobs, and Iraq, but instead I want to talk to you about family values like gay marriage and stem cells and steroids in baseball. And Janet Jackson's nipple.

If there's one thing that sells to Repugs, the Reich Wing, and the media it's sex. Sex will sell the Gannon story.

Sex.. Sex ....... Sex ........... Sex ...... Sex ......... Sex ... Sex .......... Sex .. Sex .... Sex .... Sex.. Sex ....... Sex ........... Sex ...... Sex ......... (prostitution) Sex ... Sex .......... Sex .. Sex .... Sex .... Sex.. Sex ....... Sex ........... (gay) Sex ...... Sex ......... (whores) Sex ... Sex .......... Sex .. Sex .... Sex .... Sex.. Sex ....... Sex ........... Sex ...... Sex ......... (penis) Sex ... Sex .......... Sex .. Sex .... Sex .... Sex.. (homosexual) Sex ....... Sex ........... Sex ...... Sex ......... Sex ... Sex .......... Sex .. Sex .... Sex

Sex.

That's your hook.

Sex.

That's what gets it on the news.

The rest of the story (the boring, non-penis related parts) are Valerie Plame, Credentials, Shilling, Rathergate, Leaked Memos... all the stuff that leads to impeachment and treason... (yawn). SEX!

Sex? Sex? Oh, what was that? Tell me more... shilling, treason (yawn) SEX!... leaks... plame... SEX!... Rathergate... White House Security (yawn) .. SEX!

Now, we need Bill Clinton to make a statement in "support" of Jeff Gannon. "As someone who has faced a similarly viscous witch hunt, I feel his pain."

43. The payola world of Operation Mockingbird and the the domestic
wartime PsyOps media manipulations would REQUIRE a person of Gannon/Guckert's calibre, which could only be found in a bowling alley (apologies to the writer of the movie 'Arthur').

Plausible deniability is a necessity in that covert world. Who better suited to put out there than this guy ? In the past guys like Michael Aquino (intelligence at SF Presidio) were put out there...and "The Finders" --a delightful story there too. It sends two messages at once and keeps the breadcrumbs from the WhiteHouse door.

Oh, also look into 'CNN and PsyOps' the counterpunch story by Alexander Cockburn during the 2000 election. This story should have hit the fan back then, not NOW, for cryin out loud.

24. Maybe Guckert was already contemplating suicide when they picked him?
Maybe they picked someone they could easily point to and say, "He'd had a history of depression and suicidal thoughts, so it isn't really suspicious that he shot himself in the head (twice) and didn't leave a note."

On the other hand, Guckert actually seems to be ENJOYING himself on these interviews.

Is it just me, or does it look like the more he's in the spotlight, the more it seems to remind him of his days in the High School Theater Club when he played Daddy Warbucks in "Annie", or King Mongkut in "The King and I"?

Guckert: I am merely being persecuted for being too conservative and asking the wrong questions etcetera etcetera etcetera. The charges against me are completely false, and I am confident I will be vindicated because when I'm stuck with a day that's gray and lonely...

27. They chose Gannon because he's corruptible...
He has no sense of ethics and was willing to whore himself out to the highest bidder (both literally and figuratively). Gannon and Talon "News" were useful to the White House because they desseminate White House/conservative propaganda.

One reason why Gannon was caught was because he's greedy and stupid. If he wasn't whoring himself out over the internet, then he probably wouldn't have been caught

"If The White House were going to hire a plant, don't you think they would have chosen someone better than me?"

Classic non-denial like these:

GWB: "there are no plans to attack Iraq on my desk"

38. Missing the point about "Why Gannon?"
They didn't "pick" Gannon.

they were stuck with him.....he got what he wanted (a WH press pass) because it was what Gannon wanted, not the WH . Once he was there they were stuck with him. He either blackmailed his way in or had his way in bought for him by the Eberle connection.

Once he was in there, he proceeded to embarrass them.....

42. agree, agree, agree
he has got something on someone over there, and that is why he got in. As far as his denials, he has changed his story more than he changes those tighty whities he poses in. The trick will be to find out who, and dig up some real evidence. But something tells me that Mr. Gannon/Guckert has gotten addicted to the limelight, so unless they kill him (distraught reporter found hanging in closet) he will just keep talking to the cameras.
