What end of the Left are YOU on??? assuming you're on the left.
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 07:49 PM by MattG
Hello people. I was just curious as to how you would place yourself on the entire political spectrum and how you would place the American Democratic Party on that spectrum.

This is the spectrum: 1-25

1 being the most liberal you could possibly be. (AKA you hate people who ride cars and are a communist and cried about the horse dying in The Godfather but could careless about all the people who died)

25 being the most conservative you could be. (AKA major league asshole who wants to destroy ALL social programs, welfare, social security, public schools, roads etc. except corporate welfare. You also want to kill all queers, homos, and fags, but force lesbians to all become attractive and make videos of them doing "what lesbians do" for you to watch, even though you don't watch that immoral stuff because every week you pack the 2.5 children into the humvee and drive to church where you fall asleep during the boring "peace, love, and charity parts" and are exhilirated during the any reading of Revelations or why it's a sin for you to want what you want your wife to do, which is get a sex-change operation because you are a closeted homosexual homophobe/hypocrite. hold on I need a breath. You don't give a damn about any troops dying in Iraq but bawled your tiny little brains out over Ronald Regan's passing even though he was like 90 years old. And when you go to church you skimp on the offering plate even though you make a lot of money at your high level management job where you do nothing all day but abuse your loyal employees and throw darts at a picture of Clinton you have hanging on your wall.)

I would put the ENTIRE Party itself (excluding Zell Miller)between 8 and 15

Republicans (starting at the most liberal)would start at 14 and end around 22.
I myself am about a 10.5

And Please no one say "UH WHY DOES MORE LIBERAL HAVE TO BE LESS NUMBERS!!! WAH WAH" it's just the left to right thing, no symbolic meaning.

3. There's no such thing as a political spectrum.

The construct is old, and these days meaningless. It probably never was meaningful to begin with.

13. The very idea is absurd.
One's political belief system cannot even be projected onto a linear scale, forget fully represented by it.

It's tired. Let it go.

25. Admittedly, one's "political belief system" can't really be "measured",...
,...in this way. But, the positive aspect about these (what I call) games is that it does tend to inspire people to think about what they believe and "measure" themselves.

Doncha' think? :bounce:

8. I like Bill Moyers, Julian Bond, Alexis Herman,
Robert Kennedy, Robert Kennedy Jr., Barbara Boxer, Howard Metzenbaum, Mario Cuomo, Morris Udall, Tom Eagleton, Paul Wellstone, Birch Bayh, John Kerry, John Edwards, and a long list of others.

I'm left of your scale but participate in Democratic Party politics because the platform of the other major party is so abominable.

My grandfather was a Nazi sympathizer and his wife, my grandmother, was a LaFollette organizer.

18. Actually,
that was a screw up on the page. I fixed it.

Neo Nazi belonged in the conservative section

Librul and Tree-hugger belonged in the liberal section.

1. I was slightly being sarcastic
2. I was slightly being serious with librul tree hugger communist because well, for those on the FAR FAR FAR left, that's what they are, plain and simple.

I believe in Universal Health Care and in having the govenment take care of the poor (housing, food). But I also oppose restrictions on individual freedom and I definitely oppose government surveillance. I support the environment over industry and I oppose free trade. I am personally opposed to abortion though I am pro-choice and especially oppose the idea of parental consent (because of all the dead teenage girls in back alleys at the time of Roe v. Wade).

11. Assuming 12.5 is center,...
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 08:11 PM by Just Me
,...I'd say the Democratic party ranges from 6 to 19, the Republican party from 15 to 25, and I'd fall in range of 8 to 15.

Did I get the right answer? :bounce:

On edit: I had to adjust a bit due to the editing on the original post (which, I might add, was fabulous editing *LOL*).

19. The questions are very selective though. They are not rounded enough.
There was nothing on the death penalty but there were questions on graphic pornography. A test with different questions would have given the same people different scores. I got an 8 but I agree more with Jesse Jackson on most issues than with Ted Kennedy. I don't agree with Hillary on much of anything. Also, Hillary is more conservative than Bill on most issues but apparently not on this test.

Here are the list of poltical scores the test listed:

Jesse Jackson 0

Ted Kennedy 5

Hillary Clinton 10

Bill Clinton 15

Colin Powell 20

George Bush 25

Jack Kemp 30

Bob Dole 35

Ronald Reagan 40

gave me a "12", right between Hillary and Bill. However, many of the questions seemed non-political in nature. I think 12 is a little high for me.

20. I am about a 10.
I can understand a true libertarian/conservative argument at times, but this neocon stuff just has to go. I think war, as in WW2 is sometimes necessary, albeit rarely. I believe that government needs to have a safety net, and should have more programs to "teach a man to fish" as it were. I don't believe government should have ANYTHING to do with religion.

That is about all I can think of. :)

21. Why do you ask?
Seems this is a popular type of question from newer folks.

I just don't see such a question from folks who have been around awhile.

WHY this question? I don't understand what difference it makes. We are here to discuss, not pigeon-hole or quantify members.

22. I kinda' like these games because it forces us to both,...
,...qualify and quantify (e.g. "identify") who we are and what we believe.

The scale is particularly fun since you can identify yourself as ranging from 1 to 25, if you please.

I do not. I asked what motivated the OP to ask.

I don't see this 'quantifying and qualifying' in numbers as having any purpose or value, but if it is "fun" for you, then go fer it.

I wondered what the purpose was.

I was asking the original poster what the purpose was.

How heterosexual are you? Rate it for me, 1-25.

How honest are you? Rate it for me, 1-25.

How intelligent are you? Rate it for me, 1-25.

How 'hot' are you? Rate it for me, 1-25.

How valuable are you? Rate it for me, 1-25.

How disturbed are you? Rate it for me.

How frustrated? Rate it.

How foolish? Rate it.

How hateful? Rate it.

How depressed? Rate it.

until the neo-cons pushed us so far to the right I was a centrist....conseritvie on money...liberal on social issues..I now find myself as a liberal: which is a place that I've been forced into...I think that many of us my age find ourselves in this position...I went to college on the G.I bill and protested the war....I admired Kerry for standing up to the Establishment and telling the truth...I thought that all of this was over after the 70's, little did I know that the nerds that stayed in their dorm rooms instead of going to see the Jefferson Airplane would carry a grudge into the next millennium

34. I'm all over the damn map
Most of my beliefs are very liberal, but I have been known to go on a conservative bender and act in a very politcally incorrect fashion on occasion. (I love to eat animals, don't have much of a problem with capital punishment, have a few guns, and drive a car that gets worse mileage than any SUV). Other than those transgressions from progressive orthodoxy, I trend towards the left.
