He didn't make it out of thin air. He is, ever so feebly, echoing the sentiments of millions. He is, ever so weakly, doing something that is a mandatory part of his job description, to respond to a revelation of corruption OF THIS DEGREE. I am writing to ask you to sign the letter which Senator Durbin has been reported to have written about the James Guckert/Jeff Gannon matter. The issues raised in his letter-- the security breach in allowing someone with a false identity into the White House and near the president, and the appearance that it is another attempt to improperly shape public opinion by disguising propaganda as "news"--are legitimate, and as a constituent of yours I am hoping you will offer Senator Durbin your support.

Progressives like myself realize that with only 44 Democratic Senators + Jim Jeffords, every vote counts if any opposition to the Bush administration is to be raised. I have been disappointed in your votes to confirm Condoleeza Rice, who plainly knew more about the threat from Al Queda than she let on, and Alberto Gonzales, who will forever be linked to the Abu Gharib stain on this nation's honor. Please realize that, while many I and many other progressives still support you, this support has been tested by these votes to essentially support George Bush.
