Raw Story has reported that only ONE SENATOR has agreed to sign with Durbin. Lautenberg will sign. That's it? WTF? Isn't this a no-brainer? Am I missing something? I cannot believe this!!! We've got Gannon/Guckert by the balls and this is it? Un-frickin-believable!

I had hope with reservations. But more and more, it's looking like Obama is playing the political game for the future (mainly his), rather than fighting for what is the right correct thing to do for ALL the people he represents.

NOT need is another self-serving marshmallow.

I think he wants to be President Obama. Right now it is time to be Senator Obama and help stem the tide of corruption.

If this is true, these fuckers are USELESS. Goodbye 4th estate. They let a man lie us into war, let him get away with lying about the intelligence, etc., etc.,..They will allow our SS to be raided, our jobs shipped overseas, our treasury to be stolen, and our futures to be sacrificed.

This time we've got something to work with and they look the other way? I can't believe this! I just can't believe what I'm reading... I'm enraged! What makes matters worse is knowing that tens of thousands of people show up in Europe to protest this dick...they are not even AMERICANS! Where's OUR outrage?

There's nothing twisted about it. According to you, Durbin just made up something out of thin air that people here like, and then we're bashing the other Dems for not supporting that.

He didn't make it out of thin air. He is, ever so feebly, echoing the sentiments of millions. He is, ever so weakly, doing something that is a mandatory part of his job description, to respond to a revelation of corruption OF THIS DEGREE. And it's a mandatory part of every Dem's job description -- unless they can actually validly and competently claim that the Gannon affair should not be investigated, and I haven't even heard a Republican make that claim.

and no one has stepped up to lend theirs. That gives me cause for concern. What on earth leads you to believe that this is an "unbalanced" concern? I heartily disagree with the premise that I am out of control here...do you really think one or two signatures on a letter shows a UNITED FRONT? This is all I am calling for. A UNITED FRONT! When something is wrong- it's wrong. Pure and Simple!

15. I just called not only Barbara Boxer but Joe Biden.
Their feet need to be held to the fire. And frankly, I'm a little surprised at Boxer. I identified myself to her staffer as one of the flower-senders, and one who sent her money during the campaign, and I don't want to see her start to waffle. Where the fuck is she? Don't tell me her marvelous backbone is slipping a disc! NO BACKSLIDE ON THE BACKBONE!!!!

And Biden needs to sign this too, especially after what-all he said to Bill Maher on "Real Time" on Friday. What is he - just all talk? This is where he NEEDS to follow through.

18. Sample letter plus link to Senator's email addresses.
I urge you to sign onto Senator Durbin's letter to request an immediate and thorough investigation into the Gannon/Guckert matter.

Durbin states, "How is it possible that a man using a fake name, with dubious journalism credentials, was able to clear the White House's extensive security screening process and gain such close access to you and your staff for such an extended period of time? Have there been other, similar breaches of security and journalism standards?"

How, indeed?

Senator Obama,

Congratulations on your election to the U.S. Senate. There must be quite an upheaval in your life with the adjustment to Washington, and I hope you are handling it well.

I am writing to ask you to sign the letter which Senator Durbin has been reported to have written about the James Guckert/Jeff Gannon matter. The issues raised in his letter-- the security breach in allowing someone with a false identity into the White House and near the president, and the appearance that it is another attempt to improperly shape public opinion by disguising propaganda as "news"--are legitimate, and as a constituent of yours I am hoping you will offer Senator Durbin your support.

Progressives like myself realize that with only 44 Democratic Senators + Jim Jeffords, every vote counts if any opposition to the Bush administration is to be raised. I have been disappointed in your votes to confirm Condoleeza Rice, who plainly knew more about the threat from Al Queda than she let on, and Alberto Gonzales, who will forever be linked to the Abu Gharib stain on this nation's honor. Please realize that, while many I and many other progressives still support you, this support has been tested by these votes to essentially support George Bush.

Thank you for your time.

To DU: It seems to me he is trying to position himself for a presidential run one day. The way he does this is not by cozying up to people like us (whom he can take for granted) but by playing to the red staters. Smart, but not what I voted for.
