Poll: 60% of Americans Want Democrats to STAND UP to Bush
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 06:03 PM by liberalpragmatist
From WSJ Washington Whispers via PoliticalWire:

http://www.politicalwire.com

"American want Democrats to stand up to Bush," the Wall Street Journal's Washington Wire reports. "Fully 60%, including one-fourth of Republicans, say Democrats in Congress should make sure Bush and his party 'don't go too far.' Just 34% want Democrats to 'work in a bipartisan way' to help pass the president's priorities."

I don't have a subscription to the Wall Street Journal, so I can't reach the original source.

1. And if the democrats finally stand up to Bush,
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 06:01 PM by cornermouse
that should put an end to Bush & Company's ability to accuse the democrats of not being able to take a solid position, weakness, wafflers, etc.

4. Too bad that about 34% of Senate democrats want to
'work in a bipartisan way'

For example, the class action reform just passed with the help of democrats.

We are not an oposition...

10. It Is The Illusion Of Opposition
Senate Dems are pretty lame. They pretend to be the opposition - but when you come right down to it they work for the same interests that conservatives do. ONE BIG ILLUSION!

Take the Rice nomination as SOS. How many senate dems said they are opposed but will vote for her anyway? They do this all the time.

I don't see it changing anytime soon either.

11. The Democratic leadership seems crippled by corporatism and careerism
Few want to fight because few are willing to put their own position at risk in standing up and fighting for the sake of the people. They're either simply too self-interested or have sold out to the money lenders.

I fear these people are asking for a very tall order if they want Democratic big-wigs to stand up and fight as a front. Dean seems up for a good struggle, but I am not so sure about the rest of the Senate Democrats outside of Boxer and a few others.

13. Rep.s elected him; give him enough rope to hang himself ..... then
history will show him as the idiot he is, having run this governmental corporation into the ground just as he did every other company he's gotten his hands on. Best of all options is for demos to block everything he tries to pass ... make the next 3 years a dead-heat like he wasn't even there. That calls for unity in the democratic party. Is that possible?

15. And Bush won the election? From so many of the poll numbers
that have come out since the election,it appears to me, that just like the exit polls of election night, Bush lost, and by a lot.

20. This absolutely infuriates me
I heard Republicans say many times before the election "oh, he'd never do ______, the Democrats won't allow that" or "well, the Democrats will keep them in check, it won't be that bad".

*scream*

Yes, let's elect a madman and count on the people you consider scum to keep him in line.

It's just a short item among many describing the poll here:
http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/media/poll20050216.pdf

AMERICANS WANT DEMOCRATS to stand up to Bush.

Fully 60%, including one-fourth of Republicans, say Democrats in Congress should make sure Bush and his party "don't go too far." Just 34% want Democrats to "work in a bipartisan way" to help pass the president's priorities.

Like Bush, new Democratic Chairman Dean polarizes opinion. By 45% to 5%, Democrats say he will project a positive image rather than a negative one; Republicans say the opposite by 37% to 19%. Independents divide more evenly.

22. Yep, saw similar polls before. So why didn't 60% of the fuckers go
out and vote against him?? Cry me a river you shitheads. God this makes one furious. Gee are they getting scared of losing their asses?? They should be scared and they should lose them. Stupid people need to have their noses rubbed in the dung in order to learn.

Its time to stand up to Bush, like these people are saying - or else keep losing elections.

getting the message. When they approve 'Necroponte' without a fight that will really be infuriating. By the time they decide to filibuster something, the Repukes will have made it illegal.

HELP!
