we are writing new paper ballot regs for California: VVPB style

for those who might be in CA and interested: we are using the model proporsed in Georgia http://www.voterchoice.org and changing it somewhat to use in California.

in essence, the regulations require a voting machine of any sort to print out a paper ballot a voter can review for accuracy. that ballot becomes the legal vote for the record and is deposited in a box at the precinct. the votes of record will then be counted AT THE PRECINCT,after polls close, and that count and those results will be open/displayed to the public immediately and then forwarded to central voting location.

the electronic machines can be used, even counted, but the paper ballots will be counted as the official result.

furthermore, all the machines' operating systems will be available for public review and access to the machines and their code will be regulatated. Diebold can no longer "phone home" for instructions outside the system, or access their machines for that matter.

not likely the dems in the legislature will approve this stuff, since they are too busy being cowards and caving in to arnold....letting the repubs stage their revolution against the will of the democratic majority.

but we will see.

BTW . . .the most vocal opponents of this voting style is the American Association of people with Disabilities, which states on its website that current voting systems produce a paper trail HA HA HA HA
they don't do that in Riverside County.

there will have to be accomodations made for people with disabilities for sure.
