OMFG - Dems DON'T Want To Investigate The Whore BECAUSE He's A Whore?!
Just when you think we finally got them to grow a spine, it appears to be collapsing into a puddle of congealed butter.

http://rawstory.com/news/2005/index.php?p=81

Democratic senators have cooled to an inquiry into the disgraced reporter with ties to prostitution who may have been given classified information relating to CIA agent, RAW STORY has learned.

Part of the reason, Senate aides say, was the revelation that the reporter who wrote under the pseudonym Jeff Gannon had in fact sought to prostitute himself online. Democratic senators seem more reticent above delving into a scandal colored by sexual allegations

Do we need to say that if this was the Repunks they'd already be saturating cable news shows with commercials about it?

WHAT THE HELL DO WE NEED TO DO TO THESE PEOPLE TO GET THEM TO DO THEIR F'N JOBS!?!?!?!?!

BIG story in the papers, round up the prostitutes, threaten to prosecute them and THEN...........................

Prostitute's lawyer goes to visit the district attorney with the girls' little black book and starts reading the names in the book to the DA behind closed door, (half the lawyers in town, several judges, lots of doctors and business people)

All of a sudden........the girls get a fifty dollar fine and the house opens back up down the street.

I think you are right. They are protecting the congresscritters.

34. It's sort of an aimless outrage isn't it
in that it's not pointed in any one direction, but is sort of a blanketing shake of the fist.

I got a similar feeling watching people shout "Fight!" at Kerry in regards to the vote.

I felt like asking, and maybe I did ask, how they wanted him to fight. The call seemed to be "do something" like Gore "did something," with no details on what Kerry could do that was different from what Gore had done, since what Gore had done didn't work.

Back to the Congressional Dems. Kind of hard to call the offending parties when one doesn't know which ones are the most culpable. Do we email them all? Just Lautenberg, since he was the original one to call for an investigation?

Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 10:02 AM by ClassWarrior
...our own party. You can't. Because I didn't.

I said it's plainly irresponsible to slam the entire party based on a speculative report that names no names.

You claim above that "THESE PEOPLE" (in all caps) are Congressional Democrats. But your news source cites Democratic Senators. So which is it? Senators or Congresspeople? Or are we supposed to damn our Congresspeople because some of something our Senators may or may not have done - but we're not sure?...

:silly:

As Clarkie asks above, if this is about holding members of my own party accountable, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE IF I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO - IF ANYONE - IS TO BLAME??

So tell me, what IS the purpose of this thread?

NGU.

57. Obviously I can't prove it.
That's why I said "maybe." I am just speculating about a possible reason why many Democratic senators don't seem to have the balls to want to go after this story. I realize that there may be another explanation as well.

I also noticed that another poster in this thread said the same thing that I did and then later deleted it, so it's not as if I am the only one who has considered this possibility. After all, everyone is human and as we know from history both Democrat and Republican office holders can from time to time become embroiled in sexual scandals.

50. Okay. Fair enough.
I'm just sick of certain posters who run around whining about all of our defeats, and whining even louder about all of our victories. And thanks to these disruptors, it really gets my hackles up every time I hear someone threaten to "leave the party."

On top of the fact that leaving the party - and forfeiting whatever control you may have to make things better - is the worst possible thing you could do if you truly hold Progressive values and want to make a Progressive future happen for America.

Rather, our rage and frustration should compel us to burrow further into our party and destroy the rot from the inside. The only player who never scores is the one who refuses to step up to the plate.

Democrats Want Investigation of Reporter Using Fake Name
By KATHARINE Q. SEELYE

Two Democrats in Congress are pressing for investigations into how a Washington reporter who used a pseudonym managed to gain access to the White House and had access to classified documents that named Valerie Plame as a C.I.A. operative. The Democrats, Representatives John Conyers Jr. of Michigan and Louise M. Slaughter from Rochester, wrote yesterday to Patrick Fitzgerald, the independent prosecutor appointed in the Plame case, seeking an investigation into how the reporter, James D. Guckert, who used the name Jeff Gannon, had access to classified documents that revealed the identity of Ms. Plame.

<snip>

The Democrats also wrote to the Secret Service seeking an explanation of how someone using a pseudonym was cleared to enter the White House daily press briefings as well as a presidential news conference last month. They said in their letter that allowing such a person in "appears to deviate significantly from heightened security measures you have employed recently."

<snip>

Scott McClellan, the White House press secretary, told reporters yesterday that Mr. Bush did not know who Mr. Guckert was. Mr. McClellan said that Mr. Guckert entered the White House under his real name and "like anyone else, showed that he was representing a news organization that published regularly, and so he was cleared two years ago to receive daily passes, just like many others are." Mr. Guckert was denied credentials to cover Capitol Hill, where press gallery workers said that his application indicated Talon was not his main source of income and that they could not verify its legitimacy.

Karl Frisch, a spokesman for Ms. Slaughter, said: "This is a guy who could not get credentialed by the House or the Senate press galleries, and yet managed to get into the White House and question the president" and have access to a top-secret document. He added: "To imply he has no connection to the White House is just not credible."
