Remember when he and Gephardt were out there with the Lexis and the muffler? They were doing a lot of stuff like this - then 9/11 came along.

Democrats across the country didn't elect Daschle or Reid; Democrats in their states elect them. I don't know what Reid's approval rating in Nevada is, but I'm betting he's going to have to watch his step. (Check out the threads when he was being nominated as Senate Minority Leader. Plenty of DU's were moaning that he wouldn't be able to be as outspoken since he's from a red state.) Newt-the-eft was safe to on national television & make an ass of himself. He was in a solidly repub area & knew it didn't matter that a great majority of voters across the country thought he was an idiot. It only mattered what his constituency thought of him & they loved him.
