Love this letter in the Orange County Register
Leisure World an island of sanity in sea of Republicans

Register columnist Frank Mickadeit pokes gentle fun at Leisure World residents <"Change is leisurely and testy," Local, Feb. 7>. He is not alone. Our 18,000 "old folks" are often the brunt of pundit humor, but your readers may be interested in knowing that although our average chronological age is more than 77, our political IQ is at least 127.

On Nov. 2, 2004, 77.7 percent of our 16,775 registered voters cast 51.3 percent of their votes for John Kerry and 44.7 percent for George W. Bush. Bush took the county 59.8 percent to Kerry's 39.1 percent. Obviously, with age comes wisdom. Laguna Woods is an island of sanity in a sea of ignorance.

Incidentally, Sen. Barbara Boxer got more votes than presidential nominee Kerry - 55.7 percent of the total. She's a real winner.
