My read on the threats toward Iran....
It is really about the Shiites in Iraq. It is an intelligence operation to fire a shot over the bow of their brothers in Iran to not interfere with the political process that is going on in Iraq as we speak. The CIA and others believe that Sistani and a few other Religious leeaders are closer to Iran than they are to any government that might come to power in Iraq. Even if the Shiites win the latest election, they will be less powerful and less dangerous without the interference of Iran or other outside forces. Our intelligence believes they can be manipulated and controlled without outside interference from Iran. They are telling Iran, and Russia, to stay out. That's the way I read it.

3. I concur
The administration has been following the PNAC playbook to the letter,
there is no reason to expect them to change.
There are three groups in this administration:
1) the PNAC true believers, who are surprised we weren't greeted with flowers, but that doesn't matter we have to push ahead
2) the people in the corporate world who will make money off this,
they don't care which way it goes they are just in it for the money and will make money either way.
3) the religious fanatics who are looking forward to armeggedon

5. Given The History......
......of what we have done to Iran. Like the C.I.A. covert overthrow of the very popularly elected Mohammed Mosaddeq and instilling the right-wing terrorizing, torturing and murdering tyrant named the Shaw of Iran who was backed up by his C.I.A. funded and trained death squad / secrete police called SAVAK.

And given the history of the Shia not backing down from White House aggression, but instead responding with defiance. I am not completely convinced that this threat to Iran would be a shot across their bow pertaining towards Iraq's elections.

Instead I believe it to be both a trial balloon -and- the laying of a foundation by this White House to justify -(quote / unquote)- to have to preemptively strike Iran before we get a "smoking gun in the form of a mushroom cloud" here in the U.S.

That's just my opinion...
