Subsidizing Grandpa’s 'Recreational Sex'
Should we be paying for grandpa's viagra...

It appears the new estimate on the Medicare prescription drug bill is causing quite a raucous in the House.

However, it’s not just the Democrats who are in an uproar; there is a stir of dissent among some Republicans as well. Not only has the truth come out about the costs to fund this drug entitlement, but also it seems that our tax dollars will now be used to help fund support for grandpa’s flailing member.

That’s right! If grandpa wants to get it up, you’ll be paying for it. But, remember when you write out check to cover your taxes, to take a moment to remind your young ones to keep there raging hormones in check…

With Medicare spending soaring in the next several years, why, an Iowa congressman wants to know, is the taxpayer helping subsidize Viagra for older men?

1. Maybe that might cause the GOP to lose the "granma" vote.
There are always two side to a coin and maybe the Granmas of the world might vote to restrain the Viagra crazed Grandpas from running amok.

It so poetic... these idiots are waking up and finding out what they voted for. Now if enough of them start getting ticked off...

4. I don't hate grandpa's...
but it seems that atleast one Repub doesn't think we should be paying for their Viagra and I think he's got a point.

They are trying to take birth control pills away from young women but we have to pay for Viagra? Does that make sense?

They promote abstinence to the youth, but the government will subsidize Viagra for any elderly man, married or not?

Double standards!

34. Ooooooookay, "GRANNY" chiming in here now...
Aside from the shameless tittering about elderly people's quality of life, has ANYONE considered the little issue of PHYSICALLY DISABLED adult males who might need some assistance?

My S.O. has been physically handicapped since 1979. His "member" doesn't work. I've NOT been a happy camper, hence you NOW have to pay for MY anti-depressants. :)

I do agree that the double standard is a shame. Women's birthcontrol SHOULD BE COVERED by every insurance policy out there. Viagra(or whatever) perhaps should not be covered unless it is for a legitimate, documented disability related disease or physical handicap...whether young or old. Likewise, a woman's libido enhancing drug should also be covered for the same reasons.
S E X I S H E A L T H Y and still legal.

For most elderly(but maybe not jody) and handicapped persons, sexual activity isn't as frequent as you young cannibals so it's not like they'd be picking up a thirty day supply each month. Those individuals who have the big bucks can surely purchase it on their own. Those who are a little short of cash or on a fixed income can use all the help they can get.

LIGHTEN UP! Granny SB

10. Covered drugs should be necessary drugs.
I resent paying for Viagra for the same reason I'd resent paying for tummy tucks, liposuction, and nose jobs.

Funny, they don't consider birth control pills, which are all that's standing between women and their being worn out at 30 from constant childbearing as worthy of coverage under health plans that have no problem covering unlimited Viagra.

It's obviously men's medicine, men's health insurance, and men's Medicare, and equally obvious that the profit a drug makes is far more important that how necessary it might be to a patient population.

9. Viagra is not supposed to be used by people with heart problems
and other issues, which means a lot of grandpas shouldn't use it anyway. And if they do, it's not an everyday type of thing. Pay cash? Anyone know the cost?

25. They Should Sell The Idea Like The Space Program
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 10:01 PM by Vinnie From Indy
The amount spin off industries spawned from enabling "the Greatest Generation" to get freaky deaky will be enormous. The medical industry alone should see a huge increase in all manner of busted hips, heads and backsides. Those guys selling the old people's motor scooters could put out a "muscle" chair with racing stripes to attract the babes at the nursing home.

33. If we had universal health care--
--it wouldn't be a big deal. Hell, we could have a platinum-plated system with money alloted for cosmetic surgery and a whole lot of extras. Since we don't, let's stick to essentials.

We are already PAYING FOR univesal health care--we just aren't GETTING it! --Dennis Kucinich.

35. I find these erection TV commercials offensive
but notice the religious Right never complains? Yet they advocate abstention for teenagers who are must vulnerable as consumers of the commercial culture and condemn birth control for women.

Underlying it all it is the old man, stiff dick culture.
