Wow, that felt good!
The building manager for our facility just came in to check to see about replacement cabinet locks in my office. I spend my days and then some in a 12'x 10' cinderblock cube with no windows. On my bulletin board I have had posted since Nov., 2000, a printout of that cover of "The Nation" with * as Alfred E. Newman on it and the blow-up of a button saying "A thousand points of light and we get the dim one." Many people that have come and gone over the past 4 years and the few that have noticed it either want a copy or just chuckle. Well the building manager took the specs for the locks I need and then ask me to "kindly take that picture of my president down." I told him that he wasn't my president.

Silence ensued as he processed that there is someone who doesn't agree with him. He told me he'd get on the locks order and walked out. No good-byes or see ya's. I've known this man for about 20 years. I never thought I'd see him at a loss for words.

4. He's the building manager--takes care of the
physical facilities. He's not my boss though. My boss shares my politics.

5. good for u
we have to be strong against this kind of "social" attempt to limit freedom of expression.

here's a story from a red state:

Middle-aged woman goes to get her Ford Explorer worked on. The Explorer has not one but 3 "Kerry-Edwards" stickers still on it. The mechanic she has known for a long time jokes, "election's over...we'll get those stickers off for ya..." (Snicker, snicker...swagger swagger) Woman blows up like a hurricane, and YELLS--"if you TOUCH ONE of those stickers I'll be filing a complaint on you so fast your head'll spin..!"
(Yes, maam, OK maam)

8. Who The Fuck Does This Guy Think He Is?
He's the building manager and he's telling you (I assume you work in the building and are therefore a tenanat and therefore he works for YOU) to take something down? What gall. Good for you! You were way too polite. I would have told him to fuck off and keep his mouth shut and do his job.

9. Somehow I missed that cover, is it available on the Internet
anywhere? I'd love to see it, print it up, hang it in my office, possibly share it with some "friends." The Mad magazine reference would never be more appropriate!
