Is Bush laying the groundwork for a "real" class war in this country?
As someone else suggested in another thread, their plans are to tell the people that there is nothing in the SS trust fund but useless IOU's. The money has been spent. We owe it to ourselves and we are not able to pay it back when it will start coming due in about 2018. No one expects our country to tax the wealthy to pay for the taxcuts they received up to that point, which was the main reason for the Social Security funds being spent in the first place. The SS trust fund actually paid for most of the taxcuts for the wealthy.

But they want to now tell the people that there is no money in the trust fund. The IOU's are useless? They are different from other Treasury notes of the US Government? If they try that argument, there will indeed be a real "class war". That will be the threshhold that many people will not accept. But it is a possibility.

1. a "real" class war in this country?"
If there was a “class war” all those gated communities for the Chickenhawks will become cages for chickens. One good thing is there is only a couple of exits out of those, so they come too you.

2. And the people rise up... or not...
I'd like to believe that a real "class war" could happen in this country. That the oppressed would look up and see what's going on and do something about it, but it's not going to happen. If the Great Depression didn't make one happen, one's not going to happen today. Too many of the would-be risers up are firmly under the control of the Republican party. Poor, working class, lower middle class people who are blinded by the rhetoric of "values," of "taxes are bad no matter what in any form," of "America and our president are always right and if you don't have a 'support our troops'magnet on your car you're unpatriotic," espoused and spread by the Republicans and their conservative lackeys. Far too many in this country are far too blinded for a true class war to take root. There will always be the "secret" one going on that so many people never notice or realise is going on. The class war is being fought and has been for a long time, just most people don't know or don't believe that it's going on, and unfortunately I have dim hope for widespread social awareness to take root in this country and change that.

3. As Warren Buffett famously said:
"If class war is being waged in America, my class is clearly winning,"

4. I'm wondering, though, if the lower class might just have
more survivial skills.
We've had to make do on less, so we know how to "rough it."

We also probably have more weaponry. ;)
