Just found this on the blog, thought I'd share it. The cockiness comment is right on target with what my family observed last night. He was laying down the gauntlet, shoving it in the face of the Democrats, and enjoying every second of it. Disgusting.
Dear Kerry Folks:
As a veteran and a thinking and patriotic American, I was fundamentally offended last night when Bush did not mention the 500 Americans who have died in Iraq. It offended me furrther to see the sanctimony froth from his lips instead of humility in proper and measured words.
The hallmark of leadership is not high-noon bravado or taunting, playground rhetoric; it is humility. Lincoln had it, FDR had it, John McCain has it. Bush does not.
John Kerry has the humility that makes for a great leader. That alone is reason enough to send Bush back to Texas.
Where was the reverence for the fallen, the wounded, the missing, the serving? There was none. There was only patronizing of them or an ignoring of them completely in the State of the Union last night.
No Commander in Chief will ever command the respect of his people without humility.
If one read Bush's nonverbals last night, the smuggness and cockiness were all over his face. Those are dangerous qualities in human nature and ominous one in American presidents. They must not be given four more years.
Best wishes, Senator Kerry. Take the fight to the President and give no quarter.
Show your valor under fire one more time and fire your valor Bush's way at will.
Thank you for your service, past, present and future.
Thanks, too, to Carole King for the suport and for the music.
Respectfully,
Chuck Illinois
