Plus a I don't like a lot of republicans in the congress. I do like the Republicans for ending slavery though.

Not all Republicans are greedy, evil people.

My mom, age 70 was one for most of her life. She was born to Republican parents in a small Republican town in Iowa, was socialized in Republican-dominated schools and churches, worked with Republicans until moving to San Diego in the 1960s. There she met the extreme left while working at UCSD (Angela Davis was graduate student, Herbert Marcuse was our neighbor and a professor, etc.).

About 10 years ago she realized the GOP had been hijacked by the extreme fundamentalist Christian right and was no longer the party of Barry Goldwater but the party of Jerry Falwell and worse. She even held her nose through the Nixon debacle, but what came later could not be tolerated.

8. Exactly. Before the Neos hijacked the country, they hijacked the

GOP.

My dad is a Republican and he just can't believe what has happened to his party. He's not exactly forthcoming about it, but I can hear how disturbing the Bush Mafia is to him.

I guess the distinction is important to me because any party can be taken over by corporate greed in extremist drag.
