3. Do you know any republicans?
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 07:15 PM by dmordue
I don't like the politics of alot of the republicans but I know some people that I like.

I can imagine, however, James Dobson saying the same thing about some other people. Do we want to be the same as him but just with different people to uniformly hate.

6. I don't currently believe Dean said that
I'll believe it if I hear it from him.

And if he did say it, it was just a blunder. Howard Dean doesn't hate republicans, he's not our version of Ann Coulter.

24. Good on you, because he didn't say it.
Here is what he said and a link to the article.

<quote>
Dean: Because I think we're in the best financial shape we've been in, probably ever, certainly in my lifetime. We don't have a debt coming out of the presidential race, which is extraordinary. We now need to do, frankly, some of the things Republicans are doing. There's nothing I admire about the Republicans. They can't manage money. They've gotten us into a war without telling us the truth about why we're there. But I do admire their discipline and their organization. And we need to build a grassroots organization in the states the way the Republicans have.
<endquote>

There are a few people here who are playing very fast and loose with the truth.

9. My father is a Republican. I do not hate him.
Get it? Not all Repubs are the same, just as all Dems are not the same.

When you speak of Repubs, you're speaking of our friends, co-workers, employers, family members. No, I do not hate ALL Republicans. And anyone who is so ignorant as to lump in all members of a group, when what they really hate is the philosophy of the group, is a f___ loser.

16. You're exactly right.
Do I hate that right now they've been bamboozled by a freak moron and his daddy's warmongering friends? Yes.

Do a number of Republican talking points and platform ideas make me angry? Yes.

But I don't hate all Republicans, that's silly.

Especially here in New Jersey, we have some pro-choice, anti-social security privitization Republicans that even walk upright and have opposable thumbs ! ;)

10. I hate the things republicans stand for now.
But I'm not sure who you mean by the "Republicans." That can be interpreted very broadly--anyway hating's not the thing.

15. I hate almost everything they stand for, AND what they are doing to
the world, AND what they have in the hopper. They are in their own thrall, experiencing what I can only hope to be the final stages of terminal hubris.

If not, given today's technology, we stand to suffer a future, at their hands, and the global corporate fascists who OWN them, that will make 1984 look like the Wind in the Willows.

meanwhile, I don't care so much for the use the H word in direct response to repugs as people (bad PR, as Howard Dean will soon learn; his political career is probably over, after his latest ill-conceived outburst), but I DO agree with all the other sentiments in this erich blumrich vid, already linked recently. it always bears repeating

yes. i hate them for what their selfish materialism & willful ignorance is doing to the planet. i hate them for believing in the rapture, or that voting for bush is going to make abortions go away.

22. Wow, a little demagoguery goes a long way, eh?
What you're saying is no better than what the right-wing fundy-nutz say about liberals, gays, minorities, etc.

Some Christians have a saying: "hate the sin, but love the sinner". IMHO it IS possible to hate the policies of the Republican party without hating those who vote Republican.

It's this kind of "with us or against us" talk that drives away potential supporters-- be they conservatives, liberals, moderates or radicals.
